  8. { Wow a Great start,} I was trying to think of something fun to sketch for this week. I like old abandoned, and rusting cars. 057.jpg I also like the way that { Rusty1} draws them too. He's has a cool style that's all his own. So I tried to do an old truck with an model A in the bed. Thanks everyone for another great F.A.S. Ron...

1978-79 CAR RELATED “SPOILER LIP” ON THE FRONT FOR PROTECTION AND LOOKS
    Hello,

Skateboarding was in its heyday and I had a couple of old ones to ride, but the neighborhood kids laughed when they saw my old boards. It did not matter that I had the latest German Speed Bearings, Tracker Trucks and Bones Wheels, it was just an old board. No nostalgia for that generation… So, I decided to design a modern 10 by 30 inch board shaped like a fishtail (ala 1966 short surfboards), but using the latest 8ply board. I called it a “Fish Stick.”

I cut out taller wheel arches because the wide trucks and wheels rubbed the bottom of the board on sharp turns and cutbacks. The middle of the board had a row of Teflon rail guards to keep the grind marks to a minimum. The outside rails and the nose also had these Teflon rail protectors. Finally, the fish tail had two little pyramid shaped protectors to keep the fish tail safe. The nose protector was also a "spoiler" as it looked better than stock. Boards tend to hit anything nose first, so this spoiler had two purposes.

It was the hit of the neighborhood and got my little son interested in skateboards. But, the safety conscious guy that I am, and the shakiness of balancing for a three year old, I had to modify my son’s skateboard for safety. This idea got me started in building skateboard style scooters in the following months.

  10. This is a molded sculpture of an old junk yard. And a old truck that I let outside until it was rusted to the point I liked it. lol 066.jpg

Thanks Ron. Yeah, that was a real car I found in a junk yard up in Maine. I like the bus! How did you shoot that photo? Do you actually have all those models stacked up in the backround? That's a neat composition!
