View attachment 3473573 View attachment 3473573 View attachment 3473570 Found a 3 speed overdrive to replace my granny gear 4 speed. A direct bolt in swap. Except no column shift and used or new aftermarket floor shifters are hens teeth I found several scrapped (free) old 3 speed shifter bodies
Failed attempt to post lol I'll try to save it Nothing difficult after I made the decision to build one It really work well Just relied on scrap materials at zero cost to me. Might be more for you. I had to move things up twice to clear the brake booster. I found the shift rods out of 3/8 needed slight bends to clear everything The mounting bracket was just a temporary for trial and error. There was no error but see no reason to clean it up now
Every mid-50s studie the old man got had to have a 3 spd with O/D put in it, and he used the same JC Whitney shifter with a switch out of a WWII aircraft for the O/D. His equivalent of flipping on the flux capacitor....
I've run into this problem a couple of times. Your solution is what I usually do. The problem is clearance in the trans tunnel (at least in a car; a truck may be different). The usual solution is to build a sheet metal "bubble" to clear the mechanism. Sometimes it comes out looking good; usually, it looks a little weird.
