I would like to run the stock 1951 Ford gauges with speedometer. I was wondering what speedometer cable I needed to go from a SBC with a 700r4 to the original speedo?? Iv read that with a T350 you can run an original cable and was thinking the same could be done with the 700? Iv tried getting ahold of Chris at ShoeboxFord but no answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks fellas

probably depends what 700R4 you have? If it has the mechanical speedo gear in it, then you can treat it just like a TH350. and use a typical 1950s GM type speedometer cable.

I know the original cable works with a THM350. I am in agreement with Jim.

Both transmission end nuts are 7/8-18 so yes it will work on a 700r4.

There is a guy on epay that offers mechanical speedo conversions and tell him your tyre height and diff gears and he will set you up.
So the thought is we can run the original shoe box cable then?

My cable was square, the GM adapter had a slip on plastic spline like a key. Slipped right over my cable like it was made for it. For reference if you need the cable adapter my trans came out of a 1989 GMC 3500 1 ton truck.
