That thing is just right. The only thing I'd change on that car would be the oil every few thousand miles. Lol.

I was wrong, only the 54 Buick 2 dr posts didn't have the radiused wheel wells, 55 56 did have them.

I like 55 & 56 as posts & 57's as hardtops, but the only tri five I ever owned was a 57 150 post. Not a rattle anywhere & super solid feel that won me over to being a post guy. It just feels better than my dad's 55 hardtop's flippers feel & sound when I shut the door. Plus, I've always liked the cheap o' models because of their advantageous stripped down "go fast" mindset & lack of lusterious stainless trim for me to peck door dings out of and polish for hours on end. Less weight = fun. But. The hardtop's lower roof line is prettier to look at for me. Flux

Wheelguy, that '55 looks perfect just the way it is. Subtle and clean!

THANKS for some positive comments on the 55....Regarding the suggestions about maybe putting Torque Thrust style wheels on it >> That's the direction I'm thinking right now >> I've got a pair of 15 x 10 E-T 5 spokes for the rear and maybe 15 x 6 vintage M/T 5 spokes for the front >> WE"LL SEE !!!! Like both in 2door 50's-60's cars, have had both, but at heart, I'm a ragtop man, also the 4 door hardtops look pretty good to me these days, seeing more of them all the time probably due to the $$$ difference as I/We old timers still have the dreaded 4 door stigma and have driven the $$$ to ridiculous level, especially in Chevy Tri-5's. Thinking the younger generations coming into the Hobby will have Alot of 4 doors, sedans or hardtops as that is what's left in pre 64's, thats affordable. IMO, the old iron is getting pretty tuff to find and I see prices way out of line, again IMO. One thing about my opinion I have recognized is, My opinion and $2/3.00 gets you a cup of coffee anywhere I go.

  13. The '57 Ford has been mentioned by several here, and that year Ford makes for an interesting debate within itself. Almost without exception, I have always prefered the looks of a hardtop over a sedan. The one exception is the '57 Ford as most have described, but we're not really talking apple to apples here. Most reference the Custom (my Avatar car)or Custom 300 for the post car, comparing it to a Fairlane hardtop. That's apples to oranges imho. The Fairlane is a fairly (neat word for this) different body style than the Custom. I, and many others, prefer the straight lines of the Custom over the Fairlane, but that's a body style thing rather than a sedan vs, hardtop thing. A truer comparison, would be comparing a Fairlane hardtop to a Fairlane Town sedan. Even that preference gets hazy with the '57 Ford as the Victoria Town Sedan looks very much like a hardtop, so given the quiet and safety factors, once again the '57 Fairlane would have a different choice for me than other vehicles.

Yes, but why would you want to ruin a '57 by hanging that shit off it?

Truth be told, my main objection to the '57 Fairlane is the extra couple of inches in the wheelbase. And then there is the Skyliner retractable h/t with that landing strip deck lid, but enough of my thread hi-jack.

  17. Used to be post or no post depends on how many friends you cruise with.
Back in the days before A/C, if you were a lone wolf or maybe just you and your best girl, then rollin' with the short window down was fine. But if you were like some of us and packed a few more friends in the back, a post was way too claustrophobic and way too hard to see and be seen.

POST! Always POST! Lighter, stiffer, better for going fast. Hardtops are customs, and customs make almost no sense to me.

  19. We share that sentiment, you can see the way I like 'em. The HT has a longer look, for those who are into customs.

  20. I disagree, Rocky, but I have a '55 high-roof Victoria hardtop, so I'm biased :D. MVC-517F.JPG
Truthfully, though, I'd rather have a '56 hardtop roofline on my '55, but I don't want to cut it up and have to dig up all the parts and pieces to make it happen.

  21. Post or hardtop

    Ginger or Maryann

I'm thinking Maryann in a hardtop

Depends on the car, but I'm really liking these 64 Ford customs.

63 Falcon, hardtop over the sedan, but in sedan form, a bubble rear window over the flat rear window "T-Bird roof "

  30. I've always liked the under dog, so my vote is for the post cars.
