Art & Inspiration Recycling old car parts for Christmas decorations

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Dec 11, 2016.

  1. How about a Christmas tree decorated with metalflake steering wheels?
Or a tree made entirely of wheel covers?
Neither of these trees are mine; I plucked them from the HAMB a few years ago.

  2. And not really "parts" but all the ornaments are pinstriped by me!

  3. I liked your idea, Don and Danny. So I tried a couple of different hub caps. I'm wondering if my wife will like it. Ron... 077.jpg 078.jpg

  4. I like it Ron! might think about adding a trim ring to the hub cap.HRP

Not exactly car parts but @MrsBinger and I built this display. One hard working reindeer and two lazy ones. Haha

Moving rite along;). How about slipping some sort of foundation under it to raise it a little, and maybe even giving it a little rake:)

    HRP,
Here's a shot of mine. Thanks for the idea

  14. I have the power plant in place, and started with a few decorations.
My buddy who would have dropped in a grill, has gone to the other side of the Island to spend Christmas with his Mom, so I started cutting a grill outer plywood.
While cutting out the middle, my jigsaw died in a stinking cloud of smoke. I've started drilling holes all the way around, and using a screw driver for a chisel, to finish cutting it out.
Hope I'm not hijacking your thread to much, HRP.
Just figured I could inspire someone, with what can be done with our old junk.
    :)

I have a 2x4 T Bucket chassis in the shed, I had planned on using, but it's behind some crap, and I was running outer time. It'll evolve as time, and helpers turn up.
The whole thing now owes me $28 kiwi. IMG_20161215_194056.jpg IMG_20161215_192132.jpg

  15. I made some candy canes out of duct work. Not really car parts but the grandkids likes them. IMG_0495.JPG 023.jpg I did add a beauty ring to our reef Danny, Thanks Ron...

  16. You actually took it a step further...Artillery Wheel! HRP

  18. I still need to find some lights.
I've been building the grill this morning.
I found an old Chrysler hood ornaments, with a wreath in it, and painted it red. Maybe it should be green.
I also have covered the plywood in tin foil. IMG_20161216_113326.jpg IMG_20161216_123957.jpg

That indention roof idea (similar to 58/59 GM truck hood or???) would look good on something after the center was filled.
(Maybe even with tinted glass)....just dreamin....:D Thanks for sharing;)

This was our Christmas decoration last year. sleigh.jpg

  24. The roof would have been filled with wood work, and an insert back in the day, like most old cars of that era, but when I got it, all that good stuff, was long rotted away.
I figured out last night, that the bodies a 29 Cadillac Fleetwood, seven seater.
I got rid of the front doors years ago.
After it's Christmas stint, I'd like to throw it on the T Bucket chassis I have laying around.

I'm liking Gezzers one above this post, that's great.

I ran across this last night while going through some old photos. It was part of my Christmas decorations back when I was a bachelor.
