Technical 58 Apache wheel and tire questions

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by redneckbatmobile, May 14, 2016.

  1. Just wanted to see if I could get some info from somebody who's already been down this road. I'm looking to put some new wheels and tires on my 58 Apache. I'm settled on a wheel (Cragar Delux 69 Series) with some white walls from Coker. With the changes up coming being a mustang II front clip with 2" drop spindles and flipping my rear/leafs (trying to avoid blocks but may have to go there in the end) I'm hopping to drop the truck a decent amount. My questions are the following:

1.) Can I run the P235/75R15 3 1/8" whites all around or should I be running a skinnier tire up front to accommodate for the drop clearances?

2.) Has anybody had any experience with an IFS front end system with discs and these type steel wheels? The guys at summit gave me a pretty unknowing answer on the fitment with the discs.

Thanks in advance just want to order up the eighth equipment the first time and save the headaches if I can avoid it. Here's a couple pictures just for the hell of it!

A friend who has about 6" total drop in front on his '57 runs a smaller tire than 235/75. I run that size tire because it looks good on zero to 2-3" drop, imo, on my Apache. Take a look at slammed task force trucks with 15s and you can see the tires dont usually have too much sidewall that a 75 height brings. Hope that helps out a bit man. Good luck

  3. Thanks brother that does help. I was thinking that size as well because I wanted the "middle ground" drop in the 2-3" range you mentioned, but wasn't quite sure if that was too much rubber. Thanks again!

My friends has a six inch drop axle he designed and built. I might run one too if my truck ever gets to that stage and since I already bought anew set of 235/75s, I will try and can report then. But really, if you go ifs and axle flip, I am pretty sure u want a smaller tire. Just don't buy any yet. Great lookin truck by the way! Are you driving it with stock suspension now then?

it has 6 lug wheels now, what will the IFS have? mostly they're five lug. Would you also change the rearend?

  6. Thanks it took me a long time to track down a big back window short bed that wasn't tore up to hell. I am still running the stock suspension (it's scary at times even with new king pins etc.). If you do ever get those things mounted up def let me know!

And for squirrel I'm planning on keeping the 6 lug pattern so I don't have to change out my rear end. The guy I bought the truck from says he put the Dana in it that is has now and I figured I'd keep that. Brother's truck had a setup that gave you the option to keep the 6 lug. Kinda thought that was cool homage to the original even as I modernize it some.

Sounds like you're going to end up with an unkown width front track width, eh?

Anyways...hopefully you can find some wheels that aren't as ugly as the 69 wheels to put on it :)

  8. Hahaha I think they're nice for the price. That or just some smoothies with some moons. Gotta reign in the money where I can. Just wait till my wife finds out those tires are $200 a piece right?....

Used wheels are where it's at....I paid $100 for the four wheels on the orange truck. That was a while ago, but since then I've scrounged another set for even less money.

  10. You're damn right! I've actually seen a couple of sets of 69's hit Craigslist around here just waiting for the right size. I'm on there daily my wife swears I look at porn all day. Well... She's kinda right... Apache porn

  11. I'm a few months behind but if you still need a pic reference, here's my '59 with the 69's and 235/75/15's and some shitty 3" portawalls that are soon going in the trash, lol.

Here's mine. Hard to get a good pic. I will be replacing the 17s with 15s if I keep it. I really like the Tartan Turquoise. Mine has a Camaro clip and C notch for the Camaro rear. I like Asphalt Pirate's WWs and your front seat. Haven't got upholstery done on mine yet.
