    Paso was a scene,
    Santa Mara is an event,
TROG West Coast will be a event to be seen at,,,
Ill be honest, by about two hours I am bored at events. And even Land Speed is like Hollywood, a few minutes of excitement followed by hours of boredom (unless broken and working like a dog for second round). The 40 needs a new trans, the Ute needs bags on the front, the panel is running (just), and I have a set of frame rails on the frame table for next years TROG. What? Me all over the place? It give me a reason.

sad thing about trog is a build that only can be run one year. I'm too old for that concept, as "many" slam-bam trog builds are not what you'd want as a daily rod IMO.

I have to savor the time I have left for road driving, not a quick one weekend adrenalin "rush".

I am not downing what others do, but I must understand my own reality, and finances.

  4. I can't put my finger on what's been missing lately. We've lost some really great regional Hot Rod/Custom shows over the last few years here in the north east, but also gained some. I was at a car show this summer that we attend yearly, and everyone was just kind of meh when normally we have a blast. Weird vibes, but maybe my heads not straight anyways. Restlessness gets worse when your project is done. I'm not sure where I want to go next or what I want to do. I'd love to make it down to TROG, but I can't hoof a car together myself, financially or otherwise and I can't seem to get anyone to buy in. All my rowdy friends have settled down.

I'm more into the small scene, not the big events where some folk like to pretend that they are the "Cool Kids" and we're all there to fund the deal.Back roads, small towns and chance encounters with like-thinking individuals beats the heck out of wallet emptying extravaganzas,IMHO ;)

I only went to one show this year as spectator, where we talked a few minutes with you. Being away from shows for 3 years, it really hit me that nobody was really looking at the cars, they were just passing by them, or hanging at the clubhouse there. Nobody really looking in the swap area. ??

If I was closer...I'd go on those tours with you. I spent way too many decades in a garage, both at work and home, but time is shorter now, and my recent test runs trying to sort my "new" build, I realized how I missed out on for years, on just going for a ride with no destination, no cell, no schedules, and a 20 gallon tank.

If I could only fix my overheat... lol.

  8. Yep, that one. It's always been a 'scene' show anyways. Just seems like a lack of new builds. I miss the Alter Boys Jamboree. That show and the Fall-Out stand out as the two shows I find myself snapping photos and drooling on the good stuff.

See, there is the good and necessary reason for trog one-year rule!

They not only want to keep it fresh, but also to limit the entries, and the limits also eliminated the OHV8 era(49 Cad and Olds motors for example), that began the insane popularity of the fabulous fifties street driven rod hobby. So, there is a reason for their rules

TROG looks like fun, a bit late for me this year, I already went on several adventures. Maybe next year.

there is plenty to do out there...finding something (or inventing it, you can do stuff alone or with small groups) might get you to finally get that car done. It's the only way I can finish one, I need a solid deadline goal.

Sweety and I went to the jalopy jam up this year with Norwell and crew it was great, cool iron good people, however it was the same as last time except the monsoon we encountered the first time. All was good but just a hundred mile drive watching the trees turn orange is just as cool, and mayby hooking up with some like minded rodders, it dosnt have to be an event or show.

I think the TROG would be great to attend. Unfortunately I couldn't enter my car because of the T-5. I ran in the Hot Rod Hill Climb this year and it was the best show I have ever been to! MrsBinger and I still have big huge smiles on our Faces.I am excited to make the Dirt drags in southern Colorado next year too. I am happy that these two events are centrally more located than the ROGs and they get a draw from both coasts.

The last couple years I had my T, I cut out the "shows" and had a blast. When the one I'm building now is finished, I'll be headed down that same path. I met a lot of great folks, while just cruising around. No bullshit, just people with nice cars enjoying the road.

My two friends are riding their motorcycles from here (central NJ) to west coast trog starting later this week. They're nuts, but in a good way. I have not attended trog yet, even the one over here. I'm not a huge pre-war guy though.

I have had a GAS at events this year, I didn't attend that many, its honestly tough to find time, so I really only attended three events this year. But the ones I did were REALLY enjoyable. Two are regular events for me, and the other one was Deuce Days, which was just outstanding, the level of enthusiasm there was fantastic, especially in the motel parking lots on Friday and Saturday night. One of the most laid back, enthusiastic car scenes I have EVER been a part of, it was like Woodstock with hot rods, but minus the dope and nekkid hippy chicks...
Ocean Park is always good, I didn't detect anything even remotely resembling apathy at any of them, enthusiasm was very high at all three events. Guys were outgoing and ready and willing to talk, really a great vibe at all three events. And the third event, the Greater Vancouver Motorsports Pioneers meeting, hell, the only place I see LESS apathy is at my kids grade 2 class. And at 56, I was probably the youngest guy in the place! Maybe its the events you guys are attending?
I must admit, my interest in TROG is minimal at best. Just doesn't seem like my kind of scene.

At the risk of sounding like an asshole, TROG always just seemed like a fashion contest to me. Pendine in Europe, those fuckers actually run their shit hard on the sand! Punk rawk and craftsman sponsorships.

I agree. The impression I get is that it's more "Vintage cosplay" then anything else.

^ If so, then "vintage cosplay" with (sometimes) years of dedication in the garage etc.
I think there's a difference between dress-up and wanting to totally emerse yourself in the sights, sounds, smells and experiential aesthetic of period correct vintage racing.

PS: Wales is no longer in Europe.

They both have their place ,but yes a clock and records/times excites me more too.I really want to do Pendine.Even as a spectator, There are some heavy hitters that run Trog in a relaxed fashion which is cool, but have cars that could set records, its almost anti productive/anti social to compare the two. What we do need to be thankful for is there are driving events worldwide and has been an upsurge for us to drag, laugh, compete, some drink, socialise, break, use our cars, blow off steam, make friends, fail at and embrace in the last decade. It hasn't been a bad time in the last ten years to get lost in this really! Well, I would agree with that if that were the case with trog, but it's not.
I could argue the point but I don't think it's constructive because I'd bet neither of us would change our minds. I see it for what it is and I'll let the hipsters have their day.
I also don't want to turn this into a bashing thread or start an argument, because that won't be constructive either. Internet arguments rarely are.

    So have fun I guess.

Get a great photo for social media being period correct with a checkered flag at the starting line.

Cool, no argument here, just opinion.
Irony. I personally won't be able to go (nor have I been) but if I did, I couldn't get a photo for social media as I don't have a mobile/cellphone or Facebook, Twitter or whatever.:)

  28. Fun stuff, all of it! Land Speed Racing, Drag Racing, back road cruising, long road trips and even "poser" racing. I WANT TO DO IT ALL DAMN IT! :)

F&J, go to a ROG, see what these guys are building. Most are top quality builds NOT thrown together just for the weekend. Yes, a few were slammed together, but the majority of these cars are real hotrods
