I've got a '38 Ford Humpback 2 door sedan, and a '39 2 door sedan. The '39 is all steel short of the rear fenders which are glass, and the '38 has perfect rear fenders. Will the '38's bolt directly and fit on the '39? Thanks in advance!
I doubt that they would interchange. I think the humpback sedans were the standard model. The 38 Deluxe rears would swap over to a 39 standard or deluxe though. Unless someone has a definitive answer do as alchemy suggests and get out your wrenches and find out.
I knew you'd say that! lol.. I was trying to avoid pulling 2, then finding the answer is 'no'. I'd rather 'learn' it from someone else that's already done the homework- smarter, not harder, right??
I would say no. The '38 and '39 are two different bodies. Look up Wescott's catalogue, they will list the interchangeability of their glass fenders. But then the pat answer is, " Your a Hot Rodder, with a torch and a hammer you can make anything fit." Also, What's wrong with the glass fenders? I just drove a '41 delivery with glass fenders, I have known the car for 20 years and either forgot or never realized it had glass fenders. It looks great.
I've got the '38 humpback and it's a 16,000 mile car, mint body but the interior is shot, engine condition unknown. I was weighing the difference between selling it as is, or parting it out as I can use a bunch of the parts on other projects. I've got a '38 pu that needs a frame, windshield and crank, bumpers, along with a few other things. I've also got a '39 2dr that has the glass rear fenders- just thought if they would swap, why not. I put glass fenders on a '50 pu a couple years ago and didn't like the fit- or the cracks that have developed over time. Figured I go with steel off the bat before paint, right? So I could theoretically rob the parts I need, sell off the remaining parts, and actually come out ahead of just selling it outright. See the dilemma?
I have an NOS left rear fender that I'm told is a 38. It has the knockout still in place for the teardrop taillight. I have an NOS right rear for a 39 hanging beside it. The 38 fender is noticeably shorter than the 39 and also has 1 less mounting hole around the perimeter. (10) As opposed to the 39 which has 11 bolt holes. The 38 standard fenders only fit a 38 standard, period... I don't know why they deleted your original thread...
Sorry. If you don't mind doing so, count the bolt holes on the two cars. It might help verify if I'm even right or not. I could be wrong. It happens quite often. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
