How come these spindles won't fit on this axle? The distance between the bosses is about 2 1/2 inches. There is no room left for the bearing. Backing plate holes are 3 1/16 and backing plate center is 3 5/8.

I believe you have '35-'36 spindles on a '37-'41 axle. The kingpin and bearing is different on a '35-'36 axle. Not saying what you have for sure won't work together, because I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that's where the holdup is.

  3. you would be better off using `37-`41 round or `42-`48 square spindles and the appropriate kingpins

Measured Kingpin centers...50 3/4... 46-48 car axle. Kingpin bosses on spindles are about 2 1/2 apart....35-36 spindles I guess. Paid $27 on ebay..no great loss. Shopping for nuther set.

The spindles up through '36 use a kingpin with the bearing above the spindle. You can still use those if you want with that axle. But getting some '37 or later spindles will simplify stuff a bunch regarding brakes and kingpins.
