No that building is older than dirt... My first recollection of it was as Victoria Dodge DeSoto. That whole part of the street was known as Auto Row. The corners around Ensign is the last of them. Mazda was Ford and Audi has had a number of different brands over the years.

My memory was Ensign was Pacific Chrysler before that I'm not sure. Mazda across from Ensign was a Plymouth dealer (Olsen Lumsten Motors) and National was the Ford dealer then, and Plimleys was the Packard dealer. Across Quadra St from Wilsons but still on Yates St. was Jeffery and Jeffery Auto Electric (my pop worked there, Wilsons and Olsons in the late 40's 50's and early 60's) Then do you remember Merlin Motors?

Yes just down the street from the Wilson / Morrison building. That is a sorta *modern* picture by my standards.. <Grin> if you look at the detail of the top of the building you get a hint of the true age of it. It looked MUCH different when my dad worked there when it was the British Auto Center. Speedway upgraded it several times then gave up and put up a new building at their current location, which has since had several major renos.

I remember the name but cannot place it, we had long moved to the new building by then. I remember when the Chrysler auditors rolled in to Pacific Chrysler one morning and shut it down... Major fraud scandal was big news back then.

I remember these guys from when I was a kid although I can't remember the guy's name holding the guitar, the one sitting next to him is Desi Arnaz Jr, played drums, and on the right is Paul Martin, Dean's son who played bass. I remember seeing them on the Dean Martin show. Paul Martin was later a Capt. in the national Guard (I think) crashed his jet into a mountain here in so cal.

You've got a better memory than me, I would have never got that name.

  12. I just remembered "Dino Desi & Billy" from when they were on Dean Martin's show.

More famous was Jerry Lewis' son - which I had no clue of at the time.

About even with Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy.

There is supposed to be pirate treasure on the mountain or surrounding area!
Early Spanish and English explorers passed by here, large pieces of beeswax dated in the 1600's have been found. These are from Spanish treasure galleons! Carved rocks, hieroglyphics and arranged stones too! But nobody has found the treasure yet!

No matter how many times we go to this part of the Oregon coast, we have to stop and enjoy this view.
