I understand that SW were the best you could run back in the day. If you didn't run SW, what other gauges were available back then?

Just curious, back in say 51, what were your alternatives. to SW?

I want to run some vintage gauges (oil &temp) in my 41, but authentic SW are too rich for my blood. Not keen on Guangdong Province SW repops neither.

Not sure what you're looking for in a SW gauge but they can be found on the auction sites pretty cheap if you are patient. As for what else would have been in use in 51 I would guess that aircraft gauges were big post war as much of the hotrodders were scrounging this stuff for their cars. Being in Australia you may be able to find quite a bit of this stuff in your neck of the woods.

  3. GM's AC brand comes to mind. You get them by scrounging old trucks and vintage boatyards.
