Customs Anyone ever chopped a late 50s early 60s international pickup?

I'd like to chop my IH pickup but I've never done a curved glass pickup before. I doubt I can find another windshield if I were to cut the glass to fit the chop if I break it. So I thought about sinking the windshield into the body but I've never done that before. Any advice, tech info or pics would be much appreciated.

 

I recently replaced the windshield in my 1954 International pickup. It was pricey, $475, but still available new. I suspect if you check with a good glass shop they will have windshields for your pickup also. Take some pressure off to know they are still available if you break one. Have fun.

There's a guy in Merced with a chopped (and sectioned, IIRC) International pickup.
I think he runs with the 'Satan's Chauffers', or another local club. Merced's 6 miles from here, the guy and I exchange waves when we pass...Lots of bodywork done to that 'Binder, it's pretty low.

Maybe one of the Merced Edsel pilots will chime in...

Don't know if you're familiar with it but there is oldihc.org that is all about binders. Also I've seen several chopped trucks from mild to wild so it is possible, just get yourself a reputable glass man. I would think that if you try to sink the glass you would lose the width as it tapers down no?

 

Growing up our neighbor had IHC pickups I thought they were the ugliest goddamn trucks but the older i get the more they are growing on me. Good luck with your chop.

 

Rusty I agree they were and most still are the ugliest pickups but the late 50s early 60s one just does it for me. The stacked headlights and flared fenders just gives it a custom look from the factory. The cabs are just really tall.

All 1957-58 A series, 1959-1961 B series, 1961-1968 C series, and 1962-1979 Loadstars all use the same windsheld and are easy to find and fairly low priced at any good glass shop.
