need some help, I have a 59A flathead. I need to replaces the valves but I cant find a part # the intake valves are 1.75" X 4.84 long. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated
There several sources. Speedway is one. On the page below you should find all of the valve train parts you might need. If you have the straight valves you will need to use the one piece valve guides from the 8BA flatheads. I was switching from the old 59A to the new style so I bought valves, guides, guide retainers springs and so on to complete the package. It worked OK for me. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Search?query=flathead+valves
1.75" diameter valve heads are not the stock diameter for the flathead V8 engine.....they came as 1.5" from the factory. Someone has obviously modified the block. Our flathead valve kits are all the stock 1.5" so we can't help on your application.
Yes it has been modified. It was built to race in the 50’s. hoping someone can help identify the valves and where I can get them.
Check Chrysler valves, the racers I grew up with ran Chrysler intake valves, Lincoln springs. (1953-1956 time period, so they could have been Hemi V8 valves OR 'Spitfire 6'. Seems like Spitfire 6 had large intakes, stem dia. and length the same as 59A. As 39guy stated, guides, retainers, keepers, locks would be of the 8BA type. (funny thing, when I built my last 3/8" X 3/8" I used Chrysler part# rings. Fit the JE piston lands/bore perfectly...and they were Grant!)
I just ordered some of these................ http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Edelbrock-93664-Performer-RPM-Replacement-Exhaust-Valve-,111686.html Autozone even had them, well mailorder anyway.
i checked the old "how to hop up" book from '51. desoto/chrysler valves are 1.72". olds valves are 1.75" but need modifications to the stem to use the spring retainer.
google up SBI and look at the site. they have every valve known to mankind, and if yours have been modified the tech guys there will tell you what you need to start with, and what to do to it
small block chevy exhast valves will fit right in a 8ba flathead engine. just recently replaced mine with chevy valves. the chevy exhast will will fit intake and exhast in the flathead
