Hey guys, Anyone from South Dakota or the surrounding states, I'm just curious if anyone would be interested in a car show for pre '64 cars? I was living in Texas and got spoiled from their car shows and alittle over a year ago I was involved in a bad motorcycle accident, well my parents ended up bringing me back to South Dakota to help me out and I have not seen a car show that's worth a damn. I'm not a mustang, camero, or corvette person and that's all there seems to be in the shows around here (along with fast and furious imports). Anyways since I have had alot of time on my hands with dealing with my injury I thought of maybe putting a car show together in the area and give this place alittle Texas rockabilly flavor car show, but I'm not sure if a pre '64 show would be a waste of time since I haven't seen many old hot rods around. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Obviously you haven't heard of the Counts car club and their shows. http://www.countscarclub.com There are a few more people in Texas so of course you won't see the same numbers in SD.
Hi. Don't know where you are in South Dakota but I know that Deadwood has a yearly event that I think is just called something like Cruising Deadwood. They have a cruise & show from what I understand. I have never been to it but I came up for 7 years to Custer on Buffalo hunts around Thanksgiving & we would go spend a day or two in Deadwood to wind down & take the wife to the Casino's there. I still get all kind of Deadwood promotional emails from the DW Chamber of commerce so you could check there. Jimmie
Kool Deadwood Nights used to be a neat show, problem is there isn't ONE big parking lot to fit cars all in. Id be all for some sort of good shows though.
I have heard of counts car show and this last February I went to the show and if you like mustangs, cameros, Mopar muscle, or imports its an ok show, but unfortunately I am not, and it would be nice to check out car vendors instead of quilts, jams, and coffee beans. Kool deadwood nights is a pretty cool show but I do agree the parking is horrible, but that's has been about the only descent show I have seen around here
What I would really like to see is an event and not a show. I can sit and stare at my cars in my driveway. I love the Dirt Drags and Hill Climb that are happening in Colorado. I have been to both and love them. My thing is I like to drive my car, drag race, cruise with a group. Reliability runs are great. They do one in conjunction with the hot rod hill climb in Colorado and it is so much fun. I have been tossing around the idea of finding someone with some property out in the country they would be willing to rent out for a weekend to where we could hold such an event like some Dirt Drags. You could have a show along with it but at the same time you're enjoying your car and doing what hot rods are meant to do. And leave the "California dusters" at home! Been to the Kool Deadwood show a couple times. Cold is the word. Lots of farms between Boise City, Okla and the Black Hills.
Probably about 2008-2009 I would meet up with my brother-in-law who lives in Rapid City, we would head for Good Guys in Ft Collins Co, him taking his roadster or his coupe. When we'd get back to Rapid, some one was putting on an event called Black Hills Overdrive. Cruise Rapid City in the evening ,drive thru the 'Hills during the day and a short show at Bear Country. Really neat, but I think it folded after a couple of year's.There's lot's of hot rod / street rod activity and some great shops in Rapid.
Cool deadwood nights was last weekend, count of the cobblestones rod run is always the weekend after 4th of July. The Black Hills has a very clicky car scene, it doesnt seem like the clubs or individual hot rodders do much together.
