Hey guys... I've gotten a few emails about this. Honestly, I don't really have a contingency plan. Those of you who were with us last year might remember we were in the same spot. It ended up raining like 6" before 10am... We had wide spread flooding and water everywhere. Even so, we were racing by noon and enjoying the cooler weather. Ideally, if it rained on Saturday we would just race on Sunday. BUT, I have three kids I have to get home as their first day of school is Monday. Hell, if it rains out I think we will just have a party, bench race, and just generally act like hooligans... BUT I'm a positive guy... I'm pretty damned sure we are gonna be racing.
last year it rained harder then i think ive ever scene it rain here, shit was flooded that never floods in town..with that said Carl and crew got the track ready. our weather guys don't know shit around here. the forecast could change every day. one things for sure, well have a good time rain or shine. if the water scares you, stay home....
Sounds great....I've been checking out weather channels until I find a report that I like. I like this one.....Has an optimistic tone. WTF...100% Chance on weather.com .....Not that rosy Weather Underground looks has some nice detail...If this is anywhere near accurate a Sunday start would be ideal. I think I will keep an eye on this site. Long term...(wednesday night through tuesday) issued at 300 PM CDT Tue Aug 16 2016 A few showers and storms will be possible on Thursday, mainly across southern Missouri, but this activity will not be widespread in nature. Highs will be similar on Thursday as those occur on Wednesday except for southern Missouri will more cloud cover and slightly cooler conditions will occur. An upper level trough and cold front will then approach the region from the west on Friday and track through area this weekend. Scattered storms are expected to develop ahead of these features on Friday afternoon and evening. Then more widespread storms will occur along the front Friday night into Saturday. The front may stall across southern Missouri into Sunday keeping shower and storm chances going across the area. The upper level trough will then sweep through the region by Monday pushing the front and rain chances to the south and east.
The local tv weatherman, that I have the most confidence in, confirms that the rain should be out of the area by mid morning. That makes me optimistic. John
Weather actually looks pretty good now... Knock on wood. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Unfortunately, I don't think we will be able to make the trip. We really want to come, but a 6 hour drive with even a 50% chance of rain is a tough deal. Bringing two race cars, trailers, 8 people, etc... is just too expensive with the chance we may not get to run Saturday. Maybe the forecast changes for the better, but as of now it looks like we will not be able to make it.
Rain or Shine, MO-KAN here we come! There is no way I am going to set and home and cry cause I missed out. A few years back we went to watch, got hammered with rain driving all the way home, we were driving our freshly built 36 chevy. I had not connected the wipers yet. Those are the trips you never forget.
Looks like I can leave Knoxville Tn tonight and beat most of the weather... I left the blower off this year so it's gonna be a boring 580 miles...lol Here I come!
Just loaded the car in the rain. 9 hour trip from Minnesota.....we'll bring an extra case of beer. Rain or shine, we're prepared.
Looking good in Joplin right now. 90 but nice out. My forecast says rain overnight, but partly cloudy in mid 70's by noon at MO-KAN tomorrow!
Random question. What time do the gates open & will racing start in an ideal situation? Not able to be there tonight & ask personally. See you Saturday. Chris
I live 10 miles from Mokan, the rain has moved out of the area and left partly cloudy skies and cool temps in the mid 70's. The rain we had this morning is nothing compared to last year and the crew got the track dried out, I predict it will be a great day for racing!
