Hi everyone. I have a 1960 Ford F100 & when I bought it the whole front end was junk. I managed to aquire a complete front end off of a 64 F100 which I rebuilt & fitted. The last part of the puzzle is my very very worn out steering box. My F100 is column change 3 speed manual by the way. I have been offered a F100 steering box from a 63 or 64 ? with no play. It was also a column change manual too. In the pics the seller Emailed me the steering box looks similar & has already pulled the inner column out from the outer cover, so I cant really tell from the pics. Has anyone on here fitted a 61-64 steering Box to their 57-60 ? For weeks now he cant decide how much he actually wants for it ? so I have no idea what to offer as ive no idea if itll actually fit ? Many thanks. Andy.
The seller has decided to keep his steering box so he can cut the colum off for his conversion So does anyone know what other year box & column would fit my 57-60 F100 ? A friend thinks he has a early 50's one but it's buried deep in his garage. Very deep....... Thanks.
I think someone here said 53 to 60 is the same box/guts, but the column lengths changed a bit through the years. That "early 50s" won't work if it's the F1 that ended in 52, because the box style is totally a different shape
I just got a new worm gear, bearings, bushings and seal for under $80. F100 Rebuild it and move on to the next hurdle.
I pieced it together but the worm came from Macs and other places carry it also. Timken bearings and seal from local supplier. You need to tear it down, clean and inspect to figure out what exactly needs replacing.
Tore it apart....... Worm chewed so bad I'm surprised It hadn't locked up. Selector seized. One of the bearings fell to pieces. Whole box full of pieces of metal & swarf. But on the plus side. The column & box casing is sweet haha.
