Same design with pneumatic wheels/tires in place of the rigid ones work great over dirt and some gravel.

That's too easy! Here I've been thinking I need to invest in a set from Eastwood. I could slap myself in the forehead for not thinking of doing it that way. Doh!

Hey, that's great. I need another set and was waiting around for Big Lots to get them again but that's just too easy. Cool and easy tech! Now I just gotta figure out how to scrounge all the wheels off the junked machines at work.

Hell, I've got a couple of sets of wheels lying around that came off of Craftsman tool boxes. They outta be heavy enough. I also have a full size bed frame (heavy angle iron) in the garage. I think I'll make some tomorrow.

I built 4 sets of 4 very similar, same wheels but I used old pallet racking for my scrap metal.

Thanks for the comments. As they say "necessity is the mother of invention". I needed to move a chassis around and didn't have any way to move it sideways. Had all of the pieces in my used parts bin.

Here's mine - also built from scrap I had laying around. I'm lazy so I wanted a set I could drive onto instead of having to jack the car up. There's maybe a 1/4" of clearance below these. These wheels proved a little more difficult to roll than I had wanted so I just picked up some ball bearing rollers from the surplus place for dirt - We'll see if those work any better.

Simple is always good - mine would have been simpler had I just gone out and bought the right sized angle, but I was being cheap!!!! Them's the breaks!

shopping carts have decent front wheels

  19. Great idea, but how do you keep them from rolling away when you drive up on them? What are they made of?

I locked the wheels from rotating as all I wanted to do was to roll the car sideways - actually made it easier to roll with the wheels locked.

To actually have the wheels "normal" my plan was to attach some 4" wide nylon strap to the bottom of the skate and let it hang over. I am quite positive it will work, but I haven't tried that version yet.
