Funny, I just posted in the Hydrazine thread that @Moriarity has one hanging in his garage.

 

But of course Moriarity has a Turbonique powered kart!

Questions about the "US Turbine 1" - is it still around, (Smithsonian was mentioned in one article about it) and was it Turbonique powered? Most old ads and articles just call it a "Turbine Dragster" and I haven't seen it shown in any of the Turbonique articles noted. However on Draglist.com it is identified as having a Turbonique Drag Axle.

 

I'd be cruzin' the neighborhood with that on a regular basis....

 

If this was black, it would look like Professor Fate built a go cart.

That is an awesome thing to have hanging around!

 

I have been curious about these contraptions for a long time. Thanks for writing it up, Joey. Can't wait to see what comes back.

Soo, -what ever happened to the Chevelle or Mustang? That would be a cool find!!

 

There was a pretty big post several years ago about a (if I remember correctly) rich tobacco heir who had a black Ford (Galaxie?) with the axel set-up back in the Sixties..

 

IIRC, that was a real Z16 '65 Chevelle. It got wadded up in a crash.

 

The little trunk emblem was big news in '65.

 

Well, I still remember a black Ford. But I remember lots of stuff that never happened.

 

Google turbonique Galaxie. But you had me wondering.

On a side note, a good friend of mine, Mel, has 3, yes 3 of the Turbonique superchargers. One is still in the original packing crate that he received it in. From what I understand they were a all or nothing. You couldn't control the input. Mel experimented with one of his and actually got to be able to control the jet fuel input by using a lawnmower carburetor to control it.
I thought the inventor/owner of the Turbonique company went to prison for negligent homicide from people getting killed using those things.

 

I read about the tobacco king car in Garage magazine years ago! that thing sounded like one bad ass car, and the rest of the Turbonique cars (and Karts) would have been way to cool to see run.

 

The thread is a roll call for people who own these, I know. So if I'm gonna bump the thread, ya get some pix.

Here are a couple pictures of the two turbine darts the campaigned in the Midwest.

 

I bought a 1000hp drag axle on Ebay in a bad listing about ten years ago. Thd ad said "Vintage rocket engine $3000".
I bought it, posted the find here and the next day, a HAMBer gave me $10,000 for it. I thought that was crazy until the Tobacco King sold a short time later for over $300,000. I was thinking "Damn, I had the Latham superchargers too..."
Still, it was fun. I still have a jar of Thermolene

Hi there I have one my uncle imported to Sweden 1966 and it has never been used.
I would like to have a Vertical Puffer also.
Any one have on to sell me?
I Will install it in a Custom built 1959 Thunderbird called Wildbird.

Marlo Treit built this 360 lb, 3 wheeler.

 

The Turbonique factory is/was literally about 2 miles from my house. Kent Ave by the Orlando Citrus Bowl. Just an empty non discript warehouse now.
