Hollywood Blvd. looking east. The Pacific Electric street car is about to make a slight turn at La Brea, and head down to Santa Monica Blvd, at Fairfax Ave.

Some early 50's rods were build more like road racing cars, low, 4 x fenders - ie sports rods - nice to see one keeping company with the rest of the rodding community in these photos. Gary

Didn't John Cannon drive for Blocker?

Side note. Was at Elkhart Lake in 66 for the June Sprints and USRRC was part of the show. Blocker was there with the car wearing one of those powder blue Dunlop driving/crew suits with a matching beret. I about lost it upon seeing that.

  15. Aug. 14, 1952, the Gulf Freeway, Texas' first freeway, was opened, and folks could drive on it from Houston to Galveston. Although most Texans consider it unfinished as it is always under construction somewhere....

Maggie , as a former business owner in Houston , remember that the Gulf Freeway was built right over swamp land . The real problem is , the water table is a mere three feet if that much under the ground ! The amount of traffic I-45, aka Gulf takes a day is equivalent to I-495- Washington DC , the 405 in LA or the 76 in Philadelphia

[IMG][/QUOTE] The first rig is my Dad's, the second and forth rigs belonged to my uncles. The pick up must be one of their hunting buddies. I'm guessing this photo was taken during one of their goose hunting trips from SoCal to Tule Lake, California.
I'm very interested in knowing where the heck MiniCooper found this photo!
....and thanks a lot for posting it!!!

They came after the Divcos in my neighborhood, North Inglewood.

  20. The last time I drove it out to Galveston (my cousins wedding), everyone drove like a bat outta hell - it was hilarious.
