after cleaning and deburring. Beefy. Have had this kicking around for 38 years. Guess it's about time. What a masterpiece.

Cool beans. What, or why do they need shot-peening? It's not a cosmetic thing. Something to do with case hardening or keeping them from chipping or something?

I've got one to go behind my GMC. I'll need to rebuild it, do you have a source for parts if I need them?

Relatively cheap insurance, the gears had some pitting, if I am going to go as far as I am I want them to last. Also did some refacing and deburring, so want to eliminate stress risers. Going for a consult at Curtiss-Wright/MIC, they have a location half hour from me.

If you have a 35-38 non-overdrive box the bearings (clutch shaft single roller, snap ring rear seal rear is Timken 209 SL, or SKF 6209 ZNR, etc and mainshaft rear single roller snap ring open is Timken 306 L, SKF 306 NR etc) cross reference to several manufacturers, hopefully the gears are good, pretty pricey but available. Kanter Auto and Max Merritt are sources for parts and some reconditioned/exchange. Get the manuals and parts lists off PackardInfo.com. Nice boxes.

    Thanks! Great info.

  9. Had a nice 37 box that I put new bearings in and sold to another member with a Transdapt Olds to Packard adapter. It was a nice box and easy to work on. I believe that Northwest Transmission in Ohio has everything one could need for these trannies. I know they work on all the Lasalles and Olds boxes. They have an older fella there that makes the old std shift trannies his thing. He is good and has many reference manuals FWIW

Thanks for the information - I have 2 1/2 transmissions here, and a Hildebrandt flathead to Packard adapter, as well as 2 GM to Packard adapter plates.

Nice. I am probably putting it behind a flathead.
