Loudbang -great round of photos! You questioned one photo re: W-30 and the scoops. It looks like the turn signals are moved in toward the center of the bumper and the scoops are beside them.
Hi there - I'd really appreciate some help with my project. I've checked a lot of sources, but cant seem to find out who Bill Patterson beat in A/SA class in the 61 Winternationals? I know he drove a 60 Chevy Impala.... Pretty sure this is the car...
Rat Patrol, There is a related thread on ClassRacer - link below. Post #8 has a scan of the 1970 Indy results, lists Winner and Runner Up (R/U). Sounds like you need something similar but from 1961 Winternats. I sure don't have it but maybe somebody does - it would help my effort too but that kind of detail is really hit&miss - folks are kind enough to post a few scans here & there, comes in a scrap at a time. http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=62510 http://classracer.com/classforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34824&d=1465775250
Cheers mate, I'll check it out. I agree also...the info is very sketchy...its a credit to guys like Larry Davis that they've accumulated as much as they have. I am kinda surprised though,...that the NHRA hasn't set up a proper resource library for historical data...after all, they are the true custodians.
School me guys. I vividly remember sitting in study hall circa '68, and ogiling an add (in Motor Trend maybe) for the new '68 442s with the available 'under the bumper' air intakes (full frontal shot ). I thought it was new for '68. Was this available option on the 66-67 models? Don't recall ever seeing any. Edit damn it: A quick Google search set me straight.
Whew don't go away for a couple days.... come back to 4 pages of subscribed threads to catch up on. Anyway have a few left over from last time for today then I should be back to normal LOL. Hey Chevy Sedan Delivery guys. I have had a hydramatic with Chevy bell housing in the garage for 30 some years now. Was said to be in a Willys coupe gasser at one time. Hung onto it cause I new it was scarce and might do an Austin gasser some day. (Dreamer) That ain't ever going to happen so I'm trying to figure a reasonable price and if anyone has any interest in it. Trans condition is unknown and I don't have a starter with it. I also have a '55 Olds hydramatic still attached to a 324 Olds V8, that was in a Willys sedan that I'm not going to use. That engine is getting hooked up to a T10 4 speed. I guess I'm looking for info on the Chevy setup as much as I'm looking for a new home for them. Thanks Lee
IF it is the correct Hydro for the sedan delivery let me know what you come up with for a price. I have friends down that way picking up cars all the time.
Sedan Deliveries were built, titled, and licensed as "trucks"; in fact they were't even in the passenger car brochures, just the truck brochures. Trucks could be ordered with the "optional" Hydramatic transmission. NHRA allowed the Sedan Delivery "trucks" to run the Hydramatic (a loophole as they say), even though they were never produced with them; at least they allowed it for a while, ending it in 71 I believe. Truck Hydro's were flat pans, and finding all the correct/complete parts made the swap easier; it still involved some minor transmission mount, transmission tunnel, and firewall mods. A couple of companies made swap mounts that were better than "adapting" the stock cushion mounts (there were some minor differences in the angle they bolted to the car VS truck bell-housings). Some transmission mount frame horns actually go torn torn away from the frame due to the WEIGHT of the transmission, and the mismatch in the mount angles. Most of the Junior Stock Class racers with Sedan Deliveries and Hydro's, made the transmission tunnel removable for easier maintenance (such as adjusting the bands), and making for more room. Finding all the "right" parts these days is difficult, especially the Hydro only application starter motor, and the slip yoke. The throttle pressure linkage is also a piece that's hard to find, and critical for operation and longevity of a Hydro. I think that's what he actually means by "correct" Hydro. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
KickinA, I'll do my best to pull it out tomorrow, snap a few pics, and get any serial/part numbers off it I can find. Lee
