Possibly trading my 52 gmc truck project for this 62 Buick wagon. Floor pans have been replaced and engine/trans has been swapped with a 66 401/th400. I was wondering what parts were interchangeable on these with easier to find Chevy parts and what were common problems with the engine trans combo. I'm sure a carb rebuild and brake rebuild will be first on the list. I'm excited to possibly get this boat on the road

  2. Nothing swaps and the 401/th400 is a good solid engine combo.

    Thanks porknbeaner!

  4. Later in the '60s or into the '70s things started to mix and match with a little creativity. In the early '60s Buicks, Pontiacs, Chevys and etc were pretty much still their own brand.

There is an upside though, most repair parts for that old wagon are still available at the local autoparts store. Some of the pieces they never even changed with later model cars, like the started solenoid for instance was used through about '80. You can buy all the parts to convert to auto adjust brakes over the counter and things like that.

Actually I am not completely correct, the transmission uses the same parts as any GM TH400.

Good. I was hoping I wouldn't have to hunt far and wide for parts

  6. If you have a problem let me know I'll go to the local autoparts and see if I can get you part numbers. You won't have any problems, Buicks are easy enough to find parts for.

Thanks Gary. I'm definitely gonna give it a major altitude adjustment ASAP

I could not agree with you more. The early '60s long roof GM is just classically cool.

He drove it into where it sets but part of the deal is he's going to make sure it will still run before we go further with trade. I'm in Columbia Gary and my shop is in campbellsville

dwweb7321, I'd take it running or not. A lot of hard work is already done. Getting that 401 running should be easy. I seem to remember a car similar to the Buick wagon in a Hamb thread a while back. Could this the same car?
I'm a big Buick fan and love sixties wagons. Sold a 62 Impala wagon not that long a go and really miss it.

dweb7321, just did a HAMB Search and the wagon I remembered was white in color but a 64. Don't miss out on the 62.

I'm pretty much sold on the trade already but if he can get it going that's an added bonus. What part of the commonwealth of ky are you in Gary?

dweb7321, I'm east of Louisville about half the time and the rest in the Florida Pan Handle. Are you going to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green next week?

Probably not. I work every weekend and I'm saving my time off since my wife and I are having twins in November. I wish I could though. Went a few years back. It's a great show

Thanks, I wish I had it back. It was a great highway cruiser. Late model 350 Vortec, 350th, A/C, PS, PB and 9" Ford rear.

  25. Yea the only way I would be afraid of the 401 is if it had a rod knocking, and I would be that skert over that. ;)

By the way, for the running when it was parked, I ran a Uni-body Ford about 15 or 20 miles with a window in the 6 cylinder block, it was running still when I parked it. I did borrow another truck to tow it the 60 or so miles home shoved a Y block in it though. Running when parked can be truthful about almost all of them. Running well when parked is an entirely different story. ;)
