I saw a picture of the original car on the staging lane of some drag strip, in an old hot rod book. It read that the car did not turn in a good time, due to the fact that it had a heavy lead content. Talking about a fish out of water. Great job so far, far beyond my skills.
Matt Murray is bustin ass on the Sahara,..... He is on it right now as we speak,.then when she gets back here,...install drive line, wiring, then off to upolstrey then back for glass ..then hopefully enough time for final detail. ...then loaded up for CCR...... fingers crossed my friends. ...... VooDoo
Very cool! What a wild creation! I definitely respect the hours and craftsmanship that went into this car. And as someone else said, "great use for a Kaiser 4 door!"
Kool idea but may not make it...It is in the body shop right now trying to get it done for the first week in June. It will be kool to see it at the CCR.
I have been following this build on Larry's face book page. Really impressive! Man I wish I still had his energy level!! Sucks to get old, lol Larry
Its interesting... Everyone used to hope and beg that Jim Street would restore the original Golden Sahara and tour it. After the Voodoo Sahara makes it's debut no one will give a ratzass about Jim Street and the long hidden Golden Sahara.
Cannot wait to see this thing revealed. Seeing it in progress this past year in person really took your breath away. Can't imagine how it will feel to see it finished!
Like my 84 year old next door neighbor says...."getting old ain't for pussies"...great work and craftsmanship!
This one is really exciting to watch....It could be the Custom of the Decade at least....The Paint is going to make or break this car. Let's hope Larry gets it and shows Restraint and Elegance......Centurion9
Jim Street, just a local Dayton old timer ....He's just a private guy not interested in showing cars anymore.
I think the recreation is fantastic, I love it.....but I don't think the original car will be any less amazing, I mean it had clear tires, real fish scale in the paint, real gold plated stuff....and you could drive it by remote control over 50 years ago.
I believe Larry updates on his Facebook page but Rik Hoving has a thread going on his Custom Car Chronicle site that has been following along with Larry's progress as he posts. http://www.customcarchronicle.com/forums/topic/voodoo-larry-recreating-the-golden-sahara/
Voodoo Larry is a one of a kind guy that builds very time consuming projects. We are lucky to have a guy that dedicated in our hobby. I always like seeing what he comes up with next.
Not only were they clear, but they were illuminated, and tinted (correction...not "were"...they still ARE on the car)
Matt Murray has been working night and day to get her ready for paint. She will be back in the shop soon for final assembly. Getting ready for the Leadsled Spectacular,....
Killer! I was actually thinking about this project a while back and wandering! Thanks for the update.
This thing is so epic. Thanks for everyone involved for bringing it to life. Hope to see it in person someday.
