Work area and subject are so clean it's misleading. Looks like a major chop can be accomplished in a couple of sessions, with no metal filings or blistering of paint. Stunning Merc, by the way...
Pretty sneaky to line up the post all inside the door jamb. Don't think I've ever seen that done before, but makes total sense. I'm just a little jealous of his metal working skills.
Did he lay the windshield back And tip the post in?I know on some of Winfields early chops he tip the side post in rather than cutting reliefs in the roof .I,m very impressed with the workmenship.
the chop is fantastic, I love the body line detail on the rear window between the window and trunk. I think a lot of chops on mercs fail in this area.
My pal rolled into work this morning and showed me a picture on his phone of you filling the car up. Told me he just saw this fantastic car at the petrol station. He didn´t know what it was, but he knows I love this stuff. Marco in Brighton?
The chop is done! And the next job is to work out the stainless trim round the glass.Unfortunately it was not all good at the begining and we are waiting for some replacements. They seem to be very rare and I am waiting for some shoebox ones to maybe use as fillers. Anyone used anything else? Anyway Marco raced to put it back together so it could be driven to a quite historic show here in England. Probably the first custom car gatherings ever in England!!! More to come as soon as i download the pictures!!!
Andy! First I will say your car looks really good and that Marco is an outstanding metall guy. As for the chrome trim around the windows I´m gonna use half round d-shaped stainless bar on the one I´m working on.
Wow, what a stunning car and such great craftsmanship! I like how the chop retains a bit of the reveal under the rear window/tulip panel. Interesting to note that the chop didn't require slitting the roof lengthwise above the rear window like most Merc chops do.
Sure gives it a Hudson profile to the roof, Really nicely done and I think it's one of the nicest I've seen. Frank
Thanks for posting the pictures. Nice job on the top drop. I like the proportions; nice flow. So much that makes the chop look good. I like the straight door post, the transition of the rear window to the trunk and darn nice metal work. Neal
