  3. That's a lovely unspoilt car, and I really love that spare tyre. Are all 5 tyres marked with the Ford logo ?

Big time congrats. Chalk it up to good livin. What a magnificent car and story! Really a heart breaker that the Parents held on to their late Son's car for 20 years. Bet the car was his pride and joy, like he was to them...

  10. Great score and I am so glad you were able to make it work out to buy it after all the other problems you had going on at that time.......My guess is if it would have been me with all that shit coming down around me, I would have had to pass it on to a friend.......

Thanks all - I'm very happy with the car and its in good hands for preservation . I intend to drive it to the Roundup in Austin next year.

Question- The car has a heater that works off the radiator and a heater defrost that works Off engine heat (see pics). Is this standard for a '40, or have two options for heating been mixed on this car ? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1462060699.881250.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1462060720.872823.jpg

40 Standards had no heaters, so they are all added later. Maybe by the dealer?

Interesting - I had assumed a heater was a standard feature. . This one has heat and defrost. Looks like a quality system - not sure it's Ford dealer add-on or aftermarket. I'll see if I can find any markings.

Wow, what a great survivor and original! That spare looks like it's never been on the road going by lug holes, no markings whatsoever to indicate that a lug nut has been secured. Also I've never seen a Ford script tyre or dual chamber radiator either.
Leave it as is, make sure it is safe and fix whatever needs attention and then drive the doors off it.

  18. My 40 had a hot air heater similar to yours with all the same duct work, electric motor and the stuff under the dash. Except, mine had a heat exchanger muffler instead of getting the heat from the radiator. I've seen several like mine, even read about them. This is the first time of seen one like yours taking heat from the radiator. And yes, they were dealer installed.

This has the heat exchanger that works off the exhaust, and an additional one that works off the radiator. It takes heat from the top of the tank - coolant does not pass through it.

What a rare find and even more rare that it didn't have the accessory 350/350 combo.:D Very, very nice 40.

    Staggering...Awesome...Un-Friggen real...

Ok, I'm out of comments, nothing seems to fit! Woolite on the door panels. Yes, your lil woman's laundry soap, Woolite. Try a corner to get your groove on as to how damp, keep a small shop-vac near to suck up the water/dirt that shampoos out. I'd suggest a soft bristle brush to clean with and blot it off as you go, should look new when you're done.

Had to come back to look again, it's just mind blowing.

I mean, just look at that radiator core. Unreal.

    Thanks a the entire

Thanks - the entire car is like that. It is a complete fluke that this car survived and I want to keep that in mind as I get it back on the road. I have the name of the owner who was killed in WW2 and I am attempting to trace his history.

A few shots from the rear - a great angle for the '40 coupe.
