Motion Pictures Wilshire Blvd. In The 1930's

Newest thing I saw was the 35 Ford! I did like the tow truck towing the wreck. Also no one having problems without much in the way of traffic equipment (signs/ lights)Cool vid, Thanks

Thanks Ryan. It reminds me of my parents, who would have been very familiar with those sights at that particular place and time.

 

Interesting the camera truck straddling the "line" and how others tried to pass him! And the Model A Stake truck cutting across oncoming traffic to take the side street - smooth. Surprising how close they drove in proximity to each other.

We lived in the S.F. Valley in the '40s. Lots of old '20s and '30s cars on the road then. Wilshire Blvd was often travelled, too. We had a '33 Essex, a'29 Graham Paige and a '39 Terraplane. My mom could really make that old Graham go. We were blasting down Van Nuys Blvd one day and the roof insert blew out and went sailing off somewhere. When we came back toward home we saw some kids in the park using it as a blanket on the grass for their picnic. A whole different world then.

I didnt see any driveways to get in and out of businesses! Did see that truck just stepping off the curb... nice. Maybe they just rolled up the curbs with those huge wheels

 

Back when LA really was a nice place to live.

I remember my Grandfather telling me he'd drop my Grandma off in Long Beach and drive his '32 back to LA proper at night...and not pass a single car on the road.

 

10 years ago we spent a year in LA, not far from Wilshire. We travelled that road most days, boy has it changed. I would have loved to have seen just 1 or 2 of those cars cruising Wilshire.
