I have a 48 f-1 box in my 32 ford and debating shortening the arm. Does anyone out there make a new shortened arm?

You can mount an early v8 pitman arm on that F1 box. To do so you will likely need to file grooves in the P A index splines. That's what I did. You will need to change your drag link end to to match the different hook up on the P A. My only problem is I am not sure if the v8 pitman arm is much shorter than the one on the F1

There are a couple of them that were shorter, around '40. Not sure about the fat fender cars.
I have an F1 AND a '47 Tudor. I can look in the morning, and compare.

You can remove the ball, drill and taper a hole and use a tie rod end.

Just cut it off,to whatever dimension you deem correct,do a half lap, grind deep chamfers and weld er back up. I've done several,if you don't trust your welding, get someone else that's qualified,I ain't scared. I've got 30,000 miles on welded pitman arms.

Thanks for the info. I am just weighing my options before I cut.
I would prefer to buy a shorter one that cut and weld. I like the drilling idea also.

Any passenger car or light truck pitman from '32 to '48 will fit the F-1 box. Many different offsets and lengths. Anybody have a chart of these figures?

A short one with same splines is '49-51 Ford passenger. I needs to be checked carefully for use as it is curved...
Here are some numbers...I have not yet tracked down examples of all, you will notice:

Pitman Arms First use, replacement uses

    B-3590 1932…has hole for ball stud 5 ½”

40-3590 1933-4 passenger, ball forged on have 5 5/8, 5 ½---dunno which is which 46-3590 1933-4 pickup, ball forged on...forged-on ball is usually worn out.

    48-3590 1935-6

    78-3590 1937-40, 1941--47pickup…6”

11A-3590 1941, replaces…11A in service…6” (slight difference in angle of hole for link between 78 and 11A)

    21A-3590 1942-48

All measurements are center to center of holes/balls, all measurements made in bad light by old blind guy with yardstick. More to follow.

Known/suspected same spline: ’49—at least 1960’s Ford, 1948-52 Ford pickup, some 1930’s GM

I have all four of the arm types for sale on FordBarn. The 48- is the shortest at 5 1/4". I also have a modified 32 arm at 4 3/4"
