I recently picked up a 1939 Cadillac two-door LaSalle opera coupe. I'm going to chop it in the future and I'm getting ready to change the drivetrain. It has the original flathead motor in it complete that I'm thinking about putting up for sale. I have no idea on the condition of it what is a reasonable price to ask for something like this ?motor and transmission?
They are worth quite a bit I have seen them go for 800-1200 in not running rebuildable condition it's the same motor up until 48 too
If it is a standard transmission, the trans, bellhousing, and flywheel will be worth more than the engine.
I was wondering this the other day. Cruising KC craiglist there's one from a running driving car with 3 speed trans for $500. Thought it sounded pretty cheap.
OK, I'm gonna' get some flack for this, Please don't chop that LaSalle, it has to be one of, if not the best looking 39' built...just sayin'.
I have to disagree. I believe this car it really does need a haircut. But that's what makes it fun everybody has their own opinion. I couldn't find a picture of a 39 shocked but here's a picture of the 40 which looks almost exactly the same except for the headlights are on the fender I think it looks 10 times better chopped
