Hi all Could anyone shed some light on the build of this '39 Chevy Coupe? I've seen a few custom '39s around but the proportions of this one are particularly striking. The roof doesn't appear to be sectioned or stretched and I quite like the 3 window treatment. Also, I imagine these coupes didn't make it to Australia. Not many coupe made it down here back then. Would anyone be able to confirm that?
Fisher Body never made a 3 window Chevy in 1939, nor did Holden's (Australia) produce any coupes. Fisher and Holden bodies were totally different with only minor interchange. http://theshopmag.com/features/1939-chevy-custom-coupe The body modifications include the chop: 5 inches in the front and 6 inches in the back. Closing in the quarter windows turned it into a 3-window coupe.
X2, the car does not know if it is a custom or a hot rod. Body, interior, finish says custom. Exhaust, wheels, open side panels is more hot roddish. I would change the exhaust, new side panels and some nice wheel covers -> perfect custom!
Nice coupe, don't know a thing about it, hahaha. I also would leave the side panels off to show off the W-motor. On the discussion of the 3W style, the Utes (utility coupes) were a 3W style top. I know different car, but just throwing out that there were some 3W style made by Holden.
I've seen this car at Frog Follies and it is a beautiful, detailed build and it sounds awesome. I believe R&C did a feature on it a while back.
