Some tips on banging out dents

A thousand light taps are better than one crashing smash

Try to take the damage out in reverse order to how it was put in.

Start working around the edge of the dent and keep making it smaller until it disappears.

If the metal is creased and stretched you may have to heat it (make it bulge up) and dolly it down to shrink it. There are special shrinking disks that make this easier.

Does the engine turn? Or is it totally locked up? I guess it wont matter seeing you are going to rebuild it anyways!

You had me at the mustang gas tank.... What year did you pick? It's a pain they don't make a repop for 55-56. If you want new, you drop $850 on a new, albeit stainless one. Just found your thread, looks like you have a great project. Trying to find time and a starting point to start on my '55 Savoy.

Thanks. I've not taken a look, are the tanks similar in shape?

I have been slowly working on my '55 Plymouth for a few years. I had to fix a lot of sheet metal on mine as well. I have a 354 Hemi for mine - and have installed a straight axle in the front. I am going for a Gasser /street machine look ith mine. Keep up the good work - it takes time!
