Sorry @Nobey ... I didn't see your question ... but yes ... just like @Special Ed's '47 Kit trailer, mine was also mounted on a simple square tube & angle iron chassis ... with a torsion spring suspension.

 

I believe that there was a supporting dolly or 'bogey' under the hitch.
The directors tried hard to hide it in most shots
It looks like it was even used at slow/low speeds.
-A lot of the movie was shot with green screen so the car was actually just static/sitting.

Also, certain shots were done on set with fake background/foreground scenery.
These shots would have required the car to be moving - if only for 50 or 100 feet/the length of the set.
But many panoramic shots were the real deal being shot in the mountain/deserts and on the high plains.
If you watch the movie, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of the 'bogey' wheels as the merc/Lincoln pans by the camera.

 

so ..... looking at the plans ..... where's a body get asbestos sheet for under the stove these days ?? lol

Here's our little jungle hideaway. A 1953 Airstream that I fixed up (still not sure of the model but I like to think its a Flying Cloud) ...pulled the shell off (sheesh) redid the frame, stripped the paint from the interior, new floor-polyethylene plastic sheets rule! Then shipped it across the Pacific on a barge from Seattle to Hawaii. Should have waxed it up first, oh well. Has been slept in nightly for the last ten years, also makes a great recording studio. Hot drum sounds! Old bias ply tires still going strong. Luggage hatch make a nice cat door awning.

 

The kids bought this '57 Aljo in Tonopah for 200 bucks and needed someone to go pick it up. So of course I drove the '39 over and hooked it up

My 1958 "Whattzit". This was when I first got it. I thought I had a recent daytime photo.

 

My Dad had an Airstream for years.My stepmother and I had plans to do a remodel on it,but it was not to be.I've been on the hunt for one for years,but they're either trash or vastly overrated,or both.

 

I missed out on a Spartan here recently. Guy got it for free when it did not sell at auction. Dumb hillbilly broke it down for scrap. You should have seen the look in his eyes when I told him they were going for THOUSANDS to the right person. There was a site for a place that specialized and sold vintage campers. I think one like this was listed for 8K?

 

A tear drop is one more thing on my "Someday I'd LOVE to make one!" list.
I've got a one-year-only '61 Coleman camp stove with a bright-finished aluminum case that would be perfect in the kitchen of a tear drop.
Probably won't get to that though, and the stove is too delicate for me to throw in the back of the truck and take to deer camp, so I'll probably clean it up and sell it.

I'd love pulling a Shasta behind my '61 Suburban.

It's hard to judge the size of them over the internet...
..But they look kinda like 41-48 Ford or possible the rear windows used on old Greyhound buses
