VERY interested to see how that goes. They don't repop those and a lot of what you find on bodies up this way are rough if there at all. The subframe I have was just good enough to use as a template but my method yielded a slightly oversized outer rim since the flat stock traced the outside of the rails. For what I'm doing, that's NBD since I'm making a new lower firewall and channeling an inch or so over a Model A frame.

Good deal! Have you got ideas on how you're going to mount the body panels on the fresh subframe?

Just caught up with this- I was impressed by the '33 stuff you made for Nils and Josh, but this is amazing! You're like the New Age Marcel! Nice work.

Incredible shaping/finishing, Steve! Ron Covell was a 'shop neighbor' of mine since the '70s, witnessed countless projects he mastered.
As for 'perfect fit', (accurate sizes) that is non existent in a world such as the one in which we live.

I worked on 356 Porsches for years (since the early '60s) and I can tell you this: Doors from the same year cars don't have any guarantee of size control: a door from one will variate from 6mm. too short to 8mm too long! Damn near as much work replacing a door as fixing a mangled one!
(I didn't do body work, was just an 'amused witness'; drive trains and transaxles were my spec)

I have '27s, and your aluminum beauty is something I'd strive for!
Ron Covell did some '27 quarters over premade wooden bucks. You did them in the air. Amazing.

  20. How can a mere mortal do this kind of work????
    I've wasted an entire lifetime.

TIG... I was going to gas weld last night for fun on this but I always end up putting more heat in the panel that way.

Pulled a gauge off a factory quarter. So now I know how to manipulate mine. It's off now, it'll be on when I'm done with it

Reverse curve hammer in use around flanges.

Making corners. Didn't actually use that hammer lol

Corners welded in. Will need some metal finishing. Or a skim of filler. I'll likely throw filler on it and go. My goal isn't to build it perfect. Just have a good substrate for bodywork.

    That's all

if anybody out there is reading this and has a real T..i could use a couple measurements from a real car. I need:

    the width of the decklid
the height of the panel above the decklid
the height of the panel below the decklid
and the decklid length in inches... if you were to lay a flexible tape measure on it.
