When I first saw this thread, I raised my eyebrows a bit thinking to myself that just driving a hot rod that far period was brave. Then...knowing what I know about drag week, I thought it was a bit nuts. However, I have read a lot of stuff written by Squirrel to know if anybody had a shot it would be him. I am sure Las Vegas odds makers would given him (or anyone) 100:1 or more odds of not making it. I subscribed figuring it would be a great story no matter what. When he posted the pic of the sealing tape on the hood, I sat up in my chair and really paid attention. From there on my jaw was on the floor. These guys did something great. If this car is not on the cover of Hot Rod magazine's Drag Week edition, I am cancelling my subscription. Period. There is not a better representation of a fast street driven car on the planet in my eyes! Bravo guys.. Bravo!! :);):D:cool:

thanks everyone! The support has been great...keeps me going

We swapped out the gears this morning. The car seems to be running ok, the belt on the blower is missing a few teeth, it make some clicking sounds, but I think it will last ok. Don't plan on opening the throttle up on the way home, so it won't really be under any stress. The pic below is the one that shredded on the last pass, it still ran 10.94.

Off to Warsaw, MO to visit a friend. We'll continue to post a few updates as we go

Just one thing I want to add. Theres hundreds of guys in street cars "backing it up" at your local track every week. IMO, "backing it up" at your local track every week, even if its in a 5.0 Mustang or a Gen 3 Camaro, is more "traditional" than sitting in a lawn chair behind your Model A at your local drive-in, but hey, that's just me. Support your LOCAL dragstrip, or there wont BE ANYWHERE for Drag Week deals to go.

  21. Squirrel, this years streaming coverage was so much better than last years with fewer interruptions- it made it a whole lot more fun for me to have someone to follow and root for.
I actually watched the whole damn thing to the bitter end with the 32 car ladder- my only disappointment came when the chick in the 63 Falcon wagon broke out in the 4th round.

Good on you for completing the race and congrats on your win!

Jim, are any of your passes going to be on youtube or something, where I can see them?

might get you to the beginning of my run Friday. (edit: wait for the other red nova to finish, then I run next) I will put together a little video of my own stuff when I get home. kind of hard to do it on my laptop, it's easier at home on my desktop.

THe sealed hood thing....some other guy was going a bit faster than me, so mine doesn't count. But it counts to me that I was able to do the whole week without opening the hood (didn't check the oil, timing, valves, etc).

The idle has been acting up, so today we had a chance to look at the timing. The advance was moving way too far. Took the distributor out, and the advance limiters had slipped. We readjusted it and added some loctite, will see how it works. This pic is before taking the distributor apart, I just took it to have a record of where the parts were....

we're staying at a friend's house in Warsaw, it's really beautiful here this time of year.

  28. Congratulations on the class win and for making it with sealed hood the whole Drag Week, even with a little wiggle room from the hole on the hood! Rest up and hope your drive back home is uneventful.

  29. Congrats Jim! :)
