I have read this thread over the past six weeks or so and have found it extremely interesting. Obviously there has been much editing of the thread sine it was first started and I can only wonder as to all the great information and photos that I probably missed. Thanks to everyone who has made this thread what it is and I personally hope it continues on for a long time to come so everyone please keep posting those stories and pictures.
Some may not be aware of it, but THIS 56 Sedan Delivery is a recreation; you can follow the re-birth build on Face Book under Yoo Hoo Too. I always thought I liked the white and blue striped version of the car better (a later version), but I'm coming around to the earlier look of the car (well actually, truck). There are some things that are different than the original car, but still, it's pretty accurate. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Heard yesterday that Division 4 racer Wayne Wellhousen passed away. He raced from 64-67 and had a very competitive car.
The wrecked 56 looks like another ball joint spacer fatality to me. Sure were a lot of cars wrecked because of them things
It was wrecked because someone pulled out in front of the vehicle towing it. there are other pics that show it
Seems like every corner gas station back then had a race car in one of the bays. Now they are all mini-marts and no car guys anywhere near the place.
I was thinking about this just the other day. What do elderly folks and folks that don't know how to, or physically can't, check the air in their tires, check the oil and transmission fluid etc. do these days? In my area I cannot think of a single "service" station.
Growing up in the early 60's I could ride my bike around the West Side of Stamford, CT. and you see race cars in many open garages. It seemed like everyone was building a car of some kind. I don't see this much any more so it appears young peoples interests are changing to other things. I guess this means I am getting older!!! Jimbo
I presently own the old '66 B/S 427 Biscayne called 'Rat Trap' campaigned by Dick Ribaudo back in the day. Dick was from Duluth MN and raced extensively at Minnesota Dragways. If anyone has any info/photos of the car from that era I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Cal
Where the hell did you come up with that shot? Bob Davis Automotive's last location was probably no more than a mile away from where I am right now. They were a customer of ours at the shop and I knew a couple of their techs. But I never remember seeing this car before. They may have stopped racing it before I started spectating at the local tracks. Or it could be stashed away in a garage in my neighborhood.
It was a Facebook post. He had some of his other cars in a group of pics. I'll see if I can find the rest.
