For the past few years, I've participated in Hot Rod Magazine's Drag Week. This is where we race at a drag strip, then drive the race car to the next strip and race again, etc. for five days. This year it starts in St Louis. I had the wild brain fart to drive my car 1450 miles to the event. So, tomorrow morning, bright and early, my son and I will be heading out on the open road.

  3. Don't know how warm that thing gets inside, but if you were doing the trip around California (102 to 108 degrees for the next 4 days) then I would agree with the stupid part.

Ditto. Stupid FUN! So cool doing it with your kid. I have this dream to take my daughter to Bonneville speed weeks in a period hot rod, at the rate things are going, I just hope there will still BE a Bonneville speedweeks to go to when my car is done.

Some of the best times I've had started with doing something stupid. Have fun with it. If nothing else you can bond with your son while talking about how stupid it is.

I'm thinking that 427 will require a gas card for each carb;)

    Have a good one!

Wow - good that you have experience with event and know whats parts, etc to take with you. hope seats have good padding, and a good weather/road conditions app too.

Sounds like fun. You did build it to drive didn't you.
If for some reason you need anything at St Louis my buddies are hauling one of my cars there Sunday and I will show up there after the race in Byron on Saturday.
So we can bring parts if needed.

We put in the 3.00 gears for the trip, and will swap in the 4.11s when we get there, and leave them in for the whole race and drive thing.

thanks all! I plan to keep this updated, I made the first post with my phone, to make sure it works ok.

Have at it ! Some of the best/fun times are spur of the moment decisions. Turn your 2/65 air on and enjoy.

  25. Good plan. My bro-in-law bought a brand new 66 GTO in W. Virginia and drove it all the way to Calif. with 4.33 gears.
