No luck so far on the history, I tried to run the names on the title but that was a dead end. So they would probably be close to 70 years old today
My guess is with the engine set back that far, he is sitting over the transmission. Early birth control ??
Almost ready for the Street Rod Nationals. Display only. Vett2-1 by 231ramona posted Jul 20, 2015 at 12:35 PM
Very nice car, you seldom see a mid year gasser and yours definitely has the look. Can you post some more pictures of it and tell us what motor and transmission you are going to run.
Jason the Pooch came up for sale on ebay in 2009. It came up for sale about one week after I emptied my piggy bank on another project and it sold to a Corvette enthusiast (Joel Miller, I believe). He has since restored the car and did a fantastic job. I believe the car ran with a 268 cubic inch but now carries an injected 331 (or thereabouts-I think). Whatever the car is now finished for all of us to enjoy. picture with Deloy Naeb-original owner/driver of the 58 Vette
Baron, I agree. This is not the place to discuss the pros and cons of the NCRS but it was good to see it displayed. It probably helps that Joel Miller has brought a number of cars up to NCRS standards and is well known in that community. Whether we will see other drag cars without as much pedigree as the Pooch may be up for debate. Drag cars are such a large part of the history of the early Corvettes and I find it sad that they are not given the proper respect. Many drag cars have been brought back to "stock" without any regards for their past. Sites such as the HAMB have an appreciation for early drag Corvettes and I believe more drag Vettes will be taking their rightful place in the future. I have spoken to a couple of dedicated racers that either have cars in the process of being built or are being seriously considered. The more the merrier.
This is one of my favorite threads. Every time it makes a "re-appearance" I spend hours flipping through the pics. In my humble opinion, a Vette never looked better than in full on race mode! If GM hadn't meant for them to be cut up, they would have built them out of something other than fiberglass....LOL! Thanks for all the great photos.
My 56 is getting closer to setting the front axle, engine, tranny and rear end. Have all the parts now so it should come together soon
That was quick work Dan ! Axle looks great, and the car sits nice ! What did you wind up doing for the steering and the motor mounts ?
Used a Vega box and cross-steering Baron. Used the mounts you recommended from Corvette Central. The work went much easier with a lot of help and guidance from you!
Now that is one totally nice ride buddy I can feel pulling gears and the wind in the hair, very nice work!!
