Afternoon Hambers. Some non australians may or may not know that we have some very strict road rules when it comes to modified vehicles, namely, all fenderless vehicles must have cycle guards. This has been in force for many, many years. Some guys do as they please, and run no guards. However, most abide by the rules to eliminate BS from the police and from other clubs. Richard Dabbs and Pete Spicer have formed a new group called the Australian Hot Rod Alliance(AHRA). Their goals are to challenge governed rules for Modified Vehicles-Namely Hot Rods. The first topic for the new group is the Fender Exemption. Basing their arguments on the New Zealand road rules. For more information of the group and their challenges, please visit their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/885453544809262/ Last weekend they organised a coffee meet and greet. The morning meet up was an absolute success with a few guys and girls traveling well over an hour just for a few hours.
Thank you guys! The organizers are very open minded to the fact that it won't Happen over night. But with positive attitudes, it makes All the difference!!
Damn Hot Rod Houligans, I thought you were posting about our drag race sanctioning body the AHRA. Best of luck to you guys. Keep up the good work!!!
If you guys bring one half the talent and perseverance to changing your laws that you brought to building your cars you cannot fail! Some beautiful cars there!
Great looking cars fenders or not. I'd suggest one thing, make sure you put a very definite year model cut off on the no fender thing. Your reasoning "why" the year model is in your photos above. The state I live in "Washington" has had a fair weather fender law for a number of years and when it was written a vehicle over 40 years old was mid 30's and now that is a 1974 model. I sure don't want to see 74 anything running around without fenders. The law does have some good wording except the 40 year cut off rather than a specific year cut off. http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.37.500
I wish you all the Best, stand strong. The pictures of the cars are flat amazing, beautiful styling and taste, well done by all.
Thanks for the coverage and great pics Coops. I really want to clarify something that might appear to be a small point but it's an important one. We are not challenging any laws or rules. What we are seeking is to be granted an exemption to the current Australian Design Rule (ADR) that requires cars to run mudguards. The plan is for a conditional exemption for a relatively small number of vehicles similar to the exemption in New Zealand. This is Martin Crostin's '29 Dodge with 331 Cadillac power. The exemption we are seeking would be for pre 1935 cars. Thanks for the link.
