Halibrand IRS? TECHNICAL data wanted

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jrblack30, May 17, 2010.

  1. Anybody have any technical data on the Halibrand IRS axle? Any set up information, Service manuals?

    Anything?

This is what I am dealing with

  2. Anybody ???

How does this work without any upper control arm? Does the half shaft actually hold the hub in place? I always thought you should load a driveshaft with any force, but yet this this is designed to do exactly that.

looks like a copy of a jag rear inboard brks and no upper control arms.

  4. The axle is the upper arm, same as the old Jags.
That is why there are no splined slip joints.

This may not help you at all. If anything it might help someone else with something and bump this to the top.

These first 6 shots are from the third (I think) edition of the Hot Rod Handbook. The last is out of the Steering and Chassis book from the Hot Rod Technical Library.

Zipper had a similar IRS however it was a Franklin QC, Kugel hubs that used Corvette bearings and drive flanges.
