Look at Chip's [Need Louvers] last post. That could be a 'patch' that fits the opened-up roof, secured with Dzus fasteners every 6", around the perimeter.
A nice heavy 'vinyl' (made from vinyl top mat'l) could alternately snap onto the same fasteners.
I had a chopped and channeled '56 F100 body with a louvered top. Pretty thing, I had it on the chassis (Jag rear, Firebird front chassis clip) and sold it.
Pretty, but not me. The louvered top was the deciding factor...

ITS when in doubt, whip it out !!!!

  6. I got me a rock-n-band- it's a free for all!

  7. They do look cool....

Maybe double-skin the roof to seal it? Louver the outer, then spot-weld a 'inner' under it. Pour/drain a good rust-preventive paint into the louvers before installing the skin, the best of both worlds....

  13. I love ya Danny, but you either think I'm a dumb ass with zero taste or you need your glasses :p

It would be one or the other, not both.
A steel insert with Louvers punched before I weld it in.
    Or
A steel insert covered in vinyl after I weld it in.

    Or
just paint it but that's a big area. Maybe a lace panel up there of something.

I love louvers...lots of em on hoods, hood sides, deck lids....not so much on a roof.
But i do dig the look of a roof insert.
Im in the no roof louver camp....

You could always just punch half of it :)
    Which half is the question....hmm

I liked your first instinct, vinyl insert. It's an understated and classic look.

  23. Punch them on the inside. Win / Win!

I've done quite a few cars with the hood, roof and deck louvered. And, because I'm damn near OCD, I strive to make them match spacing from the front of the hood to the bottom of the decklid.... Something most will never see, but that guy standing on the second story walkway of the hotel overlooking your car drinking his coffee in the morning will NEVER forget! Detail...

Also, if you do have the roof insert done, go to a local Fast Signs kinda joint and grab some of the magnetic sign board they sell. Roll it up and throw it under the seat, and when the rain starts, pull it out, unroll it (very important!) and stick it up in the roof under the louvers. Instant water tight.

Hood and decklid is enough. vinyl in roof will give it a 50-60s look to go with my favorite engine THE HEMI.

    Damn Chip,
If that picture doesn't change the opinion pole there is something wrong with these people. If I ever get my shit together, I'm going bring my car to you and just have you punch it full of holes. Then I'll stand on the balcony and soak up the detail.

I vote for vinyl isert on the roof. Louver everything else. Even the tires but not the roof.
Remember that guy they keep talkin about on the second story balcony with coffee? Where do you think he's gonna dump the last cold sip with the grounds in it?
