one time while searching Ebay I ran across a seller offering the extruded windshield tubing for fords . I think it was sold in 6' straight lengths. I can't find the listing anymore . anyone know him or have contact info?
CCR was selling it at one time. http://californiacustomroadsters.com/index3.html https://tbucketeers.com/threads/windshield-frame-material.13335/
OK, the Mr. Roadster windshield frame I bought from Speedway for my RPU is made from that material. Not sure where you can buy it bulk. You said extruded and that usually means an aluminum extrusion. I'm not sure how they form the steel stuff with the window channel.
I just found out its called slot tube or channel tube . can't find it in 7/8 " tho . 1" is smallest. I made a 1" aluminum one where I machined the groove . it looked too big . 7/8" is important . let me know if you know a source.
From what I could find when I was looking, a lot of that slotted tubing is formed and made in China. I couldn't find one source of it over here. You would think that someone would carry specialty items like that.
I bought the W/S frame for my '26 from Snyders and it was made from that material. They might know where you can get the straight stock.
Did anyone find anybody selling bare windshield frame material? I need to make a complete frame from start to finish, just needing the tubing.
Looked online trying to find extruded material, found the shape of a round with the grove in it, just can't find a place to purchase, still searching
I doubt you will find it. I think the companies that are using it to make their $300 windshield frames put pressure on the vendor to stop selling it to the public. I found one piece on epay last year but that's it.
I guy I am building a 6" wider t bucket for needs a frame. He bought one stick last year off ebay for the project, it didn't match the frame we have, now just trying to find enough material to build a complete frame. I guess I could buy round stock and have somebody groove a .300 wide slot in it
I did mine w/tablesaw ...3/8" x3/8" slot ...9 passes 1/8x1/8....make a jig to support & locate you workpiece.. dave
I did 3/8 x 3/8 too. 1/4 for safety glass and 1/16" on each side for friction tape gasket. I hollowed (dado) out a straight 2x4 the size of my round stock, inserted the aluminum and then put a little screw in the ends. This held the aluminum straight and gave me a true edge against the fence. The only problem i had was when i bent the curves of the cowl the edges of the groove got messed up. Next time I will put something 3/8 x 3/8in the groove before i bend to protect the sharp edges.
Sorry i did it over 10yrs ago, pics long gone ,if any at all. A guy i know liked it so much he traded me a set of mint 26-27 stantions for it. I thought 1" was too big.
