Hi everyone. New member trying to finish off my project. I have a 54 Lincoln Capri with the stock 317. Runs great but would like to seal all my leaks and fine tune the engine possibly change out the tranny. Not too familiar with the technical possibilities. A local mechanic referral would be great or any advice would be appreciated. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Call John Mummert. His info is at http://www.ford-y-block.com. Although he's down in the San Diego he might know someone in your area.
Thanks, here are some more pics. My goal is to have complete confidence in the car (mechanically) so I can drive it to further shows. It's been running for a while but I have some leaks. Had the car about 12 years, got ripped off by a bad referral on my chrome and other parts. Took me a long time to get back into the car. Joe from Drag N Shop helped me get it back on the road with the custom mods I wanted. I am running stock drive train with an Accuair E-level bagged suspension. That was done by Dustin @ Meyer Chassis. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A good person to talk to is Mike Johnson, owner and operator of Speedway Transmission in Ontario. Mike is a professional race car owner/driver who races late Model Stocks on the oval at Irwindale Speedway. Mike is very cool and is into the nostalgia cars. You owe it to yourself to at least talk to Mike. It could be a good contact. Tell Mike that "Tom, the Jalopy Guy" sent you. Good luck. Here are the contact numbers.
Ha! I know exactly where that picture was taken! At the end of Pomona BLVD. just west of the 71. Lots of rubber on that street... Not sure how it got there? As far as the engine, I would second H&H in La Cresenta, I used to go to school with a guy that worked there, not sure if he does anymore.. If they can't they may know someone who can help you. As far as the trans I had King's Transmission in Glendale rebuild the Ford-O-Matic in my Comet in 2004 and they did ok.. The owner at the time even found a NOS shift kit for it.. Not sure if they're in business anymore either? Good luck.
I'll call H&H. Thank you & yes you are right - that is at the end of Pomona Blvd. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Loving the linc, could you post a rear view too please as I also have a 54 capri and would like to see more of yours, cheers Moon
I finally got around to Speedway today. Thanks for the referral, planning on going back to make some kind of plan.
Years ago I bought a 317 engine from a guy in Los Angeles. I think his user ID started with a C. Try doing a search.
Gorgeous car! I love the body mods. I roll a 52' Capri but the PO did an engine swap so now I run a 302/C4 combo. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
How's that working? I'm actually thinking of just doing a swap at this point. Did the PO swap the rear end? Car looks nice!
The late 70's 302/C4 combo seems to work well. I have put a lot of interstate miles on this car and it has plenty of power to run 75 mph and still pass the ocassional semi or two. The rearend appears to be stock. If I was to do a swap I would look at a 302/ AOD set-up. The overdrive would allow for a better rearend ratio and drop the Rs at highway speeds. Good luck, and keep me in the loop on your Capri!!
By the way, how'd you do your skirts? I have a spare set to make into fulls but have not located the right donor skirts for the filler pieces yet....
I had a local guy do the skirts, took a while but they came out pretty good. He fabricated the fill in and flare. I'm in SoCal area. Thanks for the info on the rear end, I was concerned about the rpms once I swapped the eng/trans. My stock set up is getting the job done but I don't know for how long.
I dont run a tach but I can cruise all day at 75mph without an issue, hell, we were running late one trip and ran 80-85 mph for a couple hundred miles. Dont forget these cars ran the Pan American races for over 2000 miles and AVERAGED a speed of 88 mph.
