A 3 carb set up for a flat head six I made. Never finished. I found out The running when parked motor was completely destroyed. So now it's a wall hanger.

Bare Intake Side.jpg IntakeCarbs Closeup.jpg IntakeCarbs Front.jpg IntakeCarbs Side 1.jpg th_FinalManifold3.jpg Several years ago, I wanted a unique vintage looking intake for my 292 inline 6. I already had the Offy 3x1 with adapters for a true 3x2 with Holley/Webers on it. It drives really nice.
So I took an intake gasket, measured it 3 times, and started modeling a new intake on the computer. Sounds a little odd modeling a vintage type intake on the computer. I wanted it to look "home made" so all of the panels for the intake were individuals and tig welded together. I could have had some of the parts bent to reduce some of the welding but I did not go that route. I purchased 7 to mke 5- 84 Strombergs and some cool ram tubes off Ebay.
After checking for hood clearance (dumb ass me) I would have to cut an opening in my cherry hood or get an extra one. After purchasing a spare hood, one of buddies came over after hearing what I was attempting to do. He talked me out of it and bought the 5 carb intake off of me for his racing altered.

    saltflats,

Thanks but I do not know who Hogan is. It was a work of love and the welding turned out really too nice to grind down. If one wanted to, they could block of two carbs and run three only for the street.

Hogan is the ones that make those sheet metal intakes for lots of race teams.
Beautiful work man. When I grow up I would like to weld like that.

Thanks saltflats. I, as usual, made it to last. All T-6 Aluminum and 3/16" thick. The carb plates & mounting flanges were .25".
I thought it was a bit overkill but it won't warp!

There times that I really think homemade is much sexer then store stuff ,if it is done fairly nicely, some even works better then high$ stuff, yet manytimes the hr.s put in are a lot.
Over these last 57+ years of work I've made many sets headers and some intakes as well. I started a fun little project a few months ago, building a log 4x2 intake for my Y-block Ford again ,it's still just a have fun n something to use 4 of my 94's on. I'll post a pick of so far up this week. No head flanges yet,so after I do those,we'll weld the carb flanges on for best line up,just setting inplace for now and a few parts of the start of home made linkage. I've done a few log intakes over the years. For Ford "Y"s a homemade log can be better then many of the aftermarket big name intakes; Those are made with no divider between intake ports of head. That is bad,as the two front cly of right bank fire next to each other. So I make a divider for the runners from head up to log, plus 1/2 inch into log.

  19. Very nice Dana.
When I built my Chev. split exhaust lots of the guys at work asked "why I didn't just buy a header?"
When I said "Because it was fun!" They didn't see how work could be fun!

This may be the pushing the envelope a bit but "home made in the shop" for a 261 Chevy in 1960 (by the resurrector and fabricator of my avatar).

Not run for 51 years. Presently being rebuilt by him. Cast iron head casting, fabricated cams, cam boxes, manifolds.

After the dual cam 261 above, this is almost embarrassing, but.....
Here is my four- twos intake. Intake base is a TBI intake, I milled the top plane off welded a plate on top then made carb risers. The linkage is all home built. Saving money to buy carb kits, then to figure where to start with jetting. It's not a isolated runner intake so I just can't jet like a Man-A-Fre set up. If anybody has an idea where to start hit me up.

Thanks bud, I've been working here and there for ever. I made my own extended throttle shafts. And all the linkage. Carb kits next. Hopefully this summer it will make smoke!
