Right off the bat, I'd say don't go to Pomona. The March Meet is held at Famoso, outside of Bakersfield!
DO IT!!!! Tour around LA for a few days, then head for Bakersfield. The track is 20 minutes north of town. Action will heat up at the Red Lion each night (right off of 99). Try Zingo's for breakfast. Prepare for sensory overload.
Hotels WILL be an issue! The MM is a FOUR day race now [last couple years],so if you like Nostalgia Racing it is ALL there! Usually a big swap meet, lots of vendors in the Midway, decent car show and a lot of drag racing! If you mostly like Fuel cars,Saturday is best[and most crowded],you need to show up early as the lines to get in will be huge! ROY.
This late in the game you may need to look in WASCO which is a few miles WEST on Hiway46 or Delano which is a few miles North on Hiway99!! Good Luck!! ROY.
best bet for lodging is going to be Delano. it is 16 miles north of the wasco exit on 99. wasco is the exit for the track. make sure you lock everything up in Delano, not the most secure area. I have seen the freeway backed up for miles at the wasco exit which is still 5 miles from the track so get up early. You are way late for reservations. We leave the hotel at 6 am and are lucky to have the car ready for warmup by 9. I think spectators gate opens at 8 am so be prepared to wait in line which with the bs racing is part of the experience.(good) Bring coffee and you will make a lot of friends
this late you may be better off trying somewhere in Porterville. it is north east of Famoso and you will be coming in from the other direction so a lot less traffic. better town than Delano too.
Forget a hotel. Rent a RV stay at the track. More goes on before and after gate closes. No need to drive back and forth, traffic , mess with parking, wait in line to get in. Etc. Gives you nice place to take break when the track gets oiled down, It's what the locals do. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
thanks to all that gave me info. we stayed 9 day,s, went everywhere. we got a room in porterville and just had a great time. Robert
