Hi guys ,long time since I been on here , I have a question about rear lowering blocks on my 50 Chevy .I have fatman dropped spinnels on the front , looking at 3 inch blocks on the rear , is this too much as I am still running the standard rear and powerglide tranny. Looking a nice ride and with our roads here in Ireland and speed bumps not too low! Thanks for any help. Would like to have a slight drop to the rear. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
We used a 3" blocks on my wife's '51 and cut coils in the front. 53/54 3-speed trans & torque tube rear end. Worked fine.
Stock coils in frt but 2" A-arm drop with 2" spindles and 4" blocks in rear with reverse leafs. Answer to question? Should be perfect.
If you have dropped spindles, the amount of spring cut is irrelevant. My wife's car kept the stock spindles and we cut 1-1.5 coils off (I forget).
Thanks, I know that dropped spindles would rend the cutting somewhat irrelevant, but cutting the coils is all I can afford at the moment :-(
I would cut 1 coil off and try it, remember if your coils are old they probably lost a little height already. You can always cut another 1/2 coil off if needed. It's in pain in the ass to do it twice but it's the best way.
The car itself will not be too low. You'll just need to watch your clearance on the exhaust. On my 50 it gets pinched between the rear end and the trunk floor when going over heavy bumps. Rides great otherwise. I plan to reroute the exhaust soon but could live with it if need be.
Mine is 2 coils cut in the front and 3 inch lowering blocks in the rear. Mine rides fine except when I have more than 3 people in the car. Hellfish I LOVE your car!
Thanks for the tips guys. I've just put on a fresh pair of coils as the old ones was cut way to much. I live in Norway and they are very fond of crazy ass speed bumps over here. So I couldn't drive it while it was that low. I'll go for 1-2 turns.
