Apparently they were a limited production Hot Rod from the 50s? My dad spied this thing, no pics yet, in a company parking lot for sale and called me about it....and I can't find any info on it whatsoever.
Yup, the Google has failed me. Hence my post here, to the definitive source of all automotive obscurity.
However, when I typed in "hot rod called the buzz bomb" on Yahoo Search I found a link to this thread. So maybe your Dad can send you some pics?
The Buzz Bomb was a early '50s twin engine dragster with two different engines, one in front of the driver and one behind.
There was a twin engine dragster named "The Bustle Bomb" that had a Cad engine in front, and an Olds engine in the back. It was reportedly the first dragster to run over 150mph in the quarter. Circa 1955. --- Steve ---
Please, please tell me you saved it and bought it home? You have the rest of your natual life to Google it. If the internet lack the correct info, post some when you pull it apart. Looks like a 50s or 60s special of some kind. Nice project!
That's exactly what it is. I would like to have a '50s special. Well let me make some distinctions here, it would need to be one of the "nicer" ones. Some of them were a pure abortion.
Where does this land: good or abortion: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2009/12/30/hemmings-find-of-the-day-the-hoyt-special/ Come on, did you save it? Is it driveable? what rear end?
Looks good to me. Some of them just looked like they were built by a cabinet maker and not a good one. This I think is actually a copy of the original which is also pictured @ that link neat car.
Not mine, but pics of one that a guy's father bought that I posted yesterday?, but disappeared by today. The name Buzz Bomb, obviously in part, comes from Busby's name, but the Bomb comes from a somewhat common practice after WWII, whereby guys started making cars from airplane parts, nose cones etc, and commonly any parts from bombs
