    Hey gang,

Thanks to fellow H.A.M.B.er Jon Fritch, I picked up an open drive F-1 trans today. I wasn't aware that F-1s ever went over to side shift, but that's what this is. I'm guessing '52?

Anyway, what kind of ratios does this beast posses? I couldn't find anything with a search.

    Thanks, Chip Quinn

According to my '48-'52 Ford truck shop manual,
the "remote shift" ( side shift) 3spd was available from late '50 thru '52. Light duty and heavy duty versions could be found in F-1s.

    Light duty ratios are 1st: 2.78, 2nd: 1.62, 3rd: 1.0.

    Heavy duty ratios are 1st: 3.714, 2nd: 1.871, 3rd: 1.0.

  3. Sounds like the light duty would work better in a light car with 4.11, 3:78 or close gears. The heavy duty may be better for a 3.00 gear

If it's a HD variety it will have T87D on the side of the case.

Cool! Thank you guys a bunch. I haven't cleaned this up yet, but I'm, putting my money on the light duty stuff, as it looks like any typical Ford Passenger trans from '40-'48. It get cleaned up, and into the Model "A" pile it goes!
