Technical Partially Buried Car ID?

A friend found this car on a nearby farm and sent me these pictures. I'm trying to figure out what it is to see if it is worth buying & digging up.

 

1933 Chevy 5 window coupe. HRP

 

Man that thing is more than partially buried. There may not be anything left underground....

 

I've seen worse pulled out of the ground and saved on here. Get it if you have the means!

 

No not worth digging up, take a battery powered sawzall and cut everything off that is above the ground, then take it to the scrap with the rest of your scrap iron when you go.

 

I know! I doubt it'll be free. I don't mind paying $100 for it, having the fun of digging it up, then selling for $100. I just don't want to spend $200 on it and then sell it for $40/ton at the junkyard.

 

I'd dig it out. There's some talented guys on here that could make her look new again. I'd love to have a 33-34 Chevy coupe.

looks like that 34 pontiac we dug up years ago...only worse, since ours was in the desert.

 

I don't know about the chevy deck lids but I paid $350 for two for my cabrio in order to make one good one. Next one I found was $1000.00...............used! New $1125. That said, the deck lid should bring $200 or so if it is approaching usable. Not to mention the body sections. I'm thinking about rcnut123 and his 5 window plus all the other patch work cars we know of. Like my nephews '34 roadster...now shiny black. Tim

 

Is the soil there corrosive? Some areas have soil that doesn't rot out metal. I once dug a fender out of the dirt in north Mississippi that was sandy and it was only light surface rust even though it was underground for years. There might be more there than you think.

 

Get it cheap, dig it up, if the bottom is rotten, the top can make some great yard art.

Id have it dug out already.
I'd bet that the buried part is fine.
That bodies probably in great shape.

 

I'd dig it up just to see what's left then make an offer? Idk may be cheaper to buy it before might turn out to be solid underneath. You never know. Offer double scrap weight at the very least it will make cool yard art for someone

how tall is the grass? it looks like it is not buried that deep.

Looks like a bunch of rattlers in the trees.

 

By the time you buy the weed killer, the snake killer, the wasp killer, pay too much for it, dig it out and carry it to the nearest location you can get a truck to, it probably won't be worth the effort.

That said, if you have never experienced a car unearthing, that experience alone is probably worth the admission price. The experience makes for a great story. Looks to at least be a trunk lid and a rear roof section that might be salvageable, maybe a lot more, maybe nothing at all.

Take a buddy, a cell phone, a snake bite kit, a good shovel, and a lot of pictures. We will be waiting for the story thread with pictures. Gene

 

Its been colder than a bitch here in central ks, that grass wont have any snakes in it now and is probably down close to the ground with frost. I would get it for parts if anything else....

 

It will be about 50 degrees the next 5 days in Kansas- get digging.

 

That grass looks like its about two feet deep, I bet the body is setting right on the ground. If there is one, there might be others in the area.

 

dig it up deck lid is worth getting it out ! wish i could find cars like that all the crack head scrappers got every piece of metal in 100 miles of here!

 

Id dig it up, the part that's showing is what's needed to convert a 4 door to a coupe. If the rest is shot you can get your money back on the decklid.

 

To be honest, If you hafta ask, and you would even start to think about taking it to the junkyard if it isnt good enough.............I would leave it for the next guy or share the info here with someone who might get some use out of it, sorry thats just my honest .02

 

The GM cars have a lot of wood in the body. There will not much structural integrity.

 

I've been lookin for a find like that for 30 years. aint found it yet. GO GET IT! if theres not enuff there, sell the parts that are usable, or make something out of whats left. Good luck with it.

 

As noted, not much there of value, but I'd dig it out anyway. Just the sorta guy I am...

 

PULL THE DECK LID FOR YOUR WALL ART AND LET NATURE RECYCLE THE REMAINS!!

 

it's worth $100 for the entertainment and the day dreamin' alone.

 

Somewhere, someone needs that deck lid, we sold a shell a few years back that had been a race car and the deck lid was just a piece of galvanized tin.

K 1088 makes it the 88th body assembled at the Kansas plant.
