Customs 30 Over Makes It?

    If a 283 is bored 30 over,with the original 283 crank, what does that roughly make the overall displacement of the motor?

    287? I thnk 60 over is a 292. What is halfway between 283 and 292.

    Bore squared X stroke X 7854= cubic inch

    30 over will yield an increase of approx. 4.5 cubic inches.

    That would be the displacement for one cylinder. Multiply that total times number of cylinders.

    A .30 overbore roughly equals 5 cubic inches added to total displacement.. As others have said in this case it equals 287-288 cubic inches depending on how technical you wish to be.

  9. Most old hot rodders called them a 288.
    Thats what we claimed when NHRA class racing, that way the P&G would show you legal.
    These engines are capable of 8000 plus rpm.

    3.875 + .03 = 3.905 bore

    3" stroke

    new displacement = 287
