As some of you know, I have been on a quest for the last couple of years. I got my Chebby on the road in June of 2004, it had 0 miles on the odometer. In 2009 I had amassed 93,000 miles.

At that time the thought crossed my feeble little mind, would it be possible to rack up 200,000 miles by 2014. Well guess what, it was not only possible but we did it.

At the sign for the entrance to MoKan dragway in Asbury Missouri on the 17th of August 2014 the odometer turned over 200,000.

As I type this in beautiful downtown Palmyra Pa. it is 203,597. I'll catch you guys up on our latest trip out here in another post.

I just wanted to brag a bit and say thanks to Maggie the saint for putting up with this stupid idea, not only putting up with it but being the passenger and occasional driver for almost half of it.

I forgot to add the pictures to prove it.

Well done and I tip my hat to Maggie for being willing to get up and go along on your quest. That's a partnership.

That's awesome, Bob. You're one of my role models. I'd be bragging about 20K miles.

  7. How about a breakdown on major repairs occurred during those 200K miles and some details on your car. That's a great accomplishment

I think it's about time you published a manual on HOW TO USE A 292 CHEVY IN A DAILY DRIVEN HOT ROD. A section on building the engine with parts and brand names. another on the maintance to keep it together for all of those miles and a picture section with it posed with all the milestone events and places it's carried you. I'll buy the first copy, but only if you'll sign it.

Major breakdowns, NONE. We did however replace a lot of wheel bearings, a rocker arm, a valve spring, a power steering hose and had the transmission rebuilt twice. Maybe that transmission would be considered a major breakdown but nothing that kept us off of the road for more than a few days. Also we repainted the care and replaced the carpet and top at 100,000 cause they were worn out. But thanks to the HAMB we never had to wait for help for very long.

See my post on the Alaska post. NORTH TO ALASKA, LIVING THE DREAM for a bunch of breakdowns including a broken strut rod and a broken upper a arm.

  13. What I like most is seeing the water spots on your dash.....in the speedo shot. 200,000 miles with the top down somewhere in the rain even. That is hardcore. Nice friggin' car, sir.......and good times to be had. That's stellar.

  25. Congrats Bob, I only personally know of 2 other Wisconsin guys that put that many miles on a single Rod/ Custom. I'm thinking your in a pretty select group. I might add that neither did it in that short amount of time.
