I am going to be looking for a scatter shield soon, did Ansen make 2 different size scatter shields for different size flywheels? How can I tell the difference?
I think the Ansen scatter shield was one size and would accept 10.5 or 11 inch flyeheel. I have one in my 57 Chevy and I am using the 11 inch clutch.
They made a smaller one, I have one that has a spacer for a 11 inch. The bottom cover has a flat place in it
I have three for Chevrolet V-8's/late model sixes. One is an RC Industries cast steel unit, the others are both Ansens; one in cast steel, the other in aluminum/magnesium with the lower cover chromed. All have the 55-57 Chevrolet bell-housing mounts. I would part with one or two of them for a fair price, but won't just give them away. The inside of the RC Industries one has some deep gouges/scratches, so it obviously did it's job sometime in the past. I am Butch/56sedandelivery/[email protected].
I have a two piece model in my 57 Safari made circa 1966.When I got the car the bottom section was off but inside the car along with the original "Supertanium" bolts.
I picked this one up on Sunday for $200 CDN, am hoping to find a bottom at Monroe in a couple weeks. Casting # looks to be either 5001-T or 5007-T. I take it there are two different bottoms, does anyone know if they interchange? I am ok with using the small flywheel.
Looks like someone torched the lower/inner, bellhousing starter motor boss off so they could use a block mounted starter. I don't really know why they do that; personally, I like the bellhousing mount starters. I'm down to one Ansen, and one RC Industries scattershield; sold the aluminum one and regret doing that now. Actually part of a somewhat longish short story. It came off a '57 283 that had been drilled and tapped for a block mounted starter. Engine was built in the mid '60s, .060 over Jahns pop-ups and stuff, supposed to still to be in really good shape, like ball hone it and put it back together good shape. I am going to go look at it, may end up with the whole deal for my T-tudor. Gotta see how big the domes are and what cam is in it, it might be pretty snarky, it was in a Willys gasser. Unfortunately, he doesn't know what he did with the bottom, maybe if I really get lucky it might be there somewhere. EDIT: Just got off the phone with the guy, I am looking at the motor on Wed. Its got an old roller cam with it...and theres more stuff there, but I am keeping quiet for now. This could get very interesting...
There is a 'WEDGE ENG.' pictured, I remember those (had one) Humorous how the Ansen one has 'CHEV' raised on the inside. (funny because we all know the shape so well...) The presence of these when they showed up made the cardboard scattershields all but obsolete!
